Watching the finish of the 3rd round tonight (2015 U.S. Open), there are 4 guys tied at for 1st at -4. I know that normal order of precedence is the order in which the golfers finished their round. Obviously Jason Day finished well ahead of the others, so I understand that he would be in the final pairing. Dustin Johnson and Branden Grace were in the same group (and both finished at -4), but Johnson tapped in before Grace, so I presumed Johnson would be in the final pairing (I believe Johnson actually is in the final pairing but continue reading...). However I did some research and read that if two players finish with the same score and played in the same group, the order reverts back to the player who had a better score to start the day (see Tiger Woods/Sergio Garcia 2013 Players I believe). In this case though, both Dustin and Branden started the day with the same score. So I have a question?

1) Would the next tie breaker in ordering revert back to who finished first in round 2,or would it be the player that had a better score going in to round 2?

Looking back, it can't be who was first-in for the previous round (round 2), since Grace finished 4-5 hours before Johnson, because I can now see that it is definitely Johnson who will be in the final pairing. So I guess the question is, is it in fact the player that the better score going into round 2, or is there some other criteria?

I don't know the answer but it has to be the player with the better score going into round 2.

I believe the rule is that the earlier you post the given score, the later you go out the next one. This is why Jordan would have needed to birdie #18 yesterday to play in the final group today -- otherwise, he's the fourth to post -4, and thus goes in the second group with the third person (assuming twosomes).

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

The tiebreaker works is this: the player who had the honors at the the start of the day will be the one that it put in a later pairing.

So Johnson must have teed off first on day 3.

    • You might want to try a can of Bar Keepers Friend. Yes, it is abrasive, so just wet a sponge and dab it on. It has oxalic acid (no bleach like "Comet" kitchen cleanser), and it works wonders on stainless steel and other metals. Try it on a small area first to see what happens.
    • Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.
    • I walk 30 mins a day on my lunch break. It is not very intense (since i dont want to get sweaty in my work clothes), so just a touch above leisurely. 3 days a week I walk on the treadmill for 60 mins. I alternate the incline from 4 to 10 for a couple minutes, once every ten minutes. I lift my kettlebells nearly everyday. I have a couple complex routines. I find just 15 minutes and my heart rates is elevated
