Hey guys,

Im new to sandtrap, glad I found the community.

I'm working on a golf app that will allow players to find local players interested in playing for a friendly wager. The app would connect players with one another and process the payments depositing them into the winners account. Bet amounts will be capped within a reasonable range.

I'm curious to hear some feedback on the idea.

I know some may argue this goes against what the game of golf stands for. I completely understand that point of view, I myself rarely if ever, play for money but I know many of my friends and guest at the course I work at enjoy playing for money.

Thanks

Well since you would be facilitating the transfer of money between two people I wonder how that would fly with state and federal laws? 2 people betting with each other is one thing, but once you bring a 3rd party I am not sure how that would be dealt with.

Sounds like an app where you could end up getting into a bit of trouble since you're facilitating a golf match for money.  Primary customers would be sandbaggers, con-artists, criminals and other unsavory types who would like to get connected to people with large amounts of money to lose.

I wouldn't have any interest in it and would suggest you speak to a lawyer (who in familiar with inter-state and intra-state gambling laws) before you go forward with writing any code.

Are tournaments with cash prizes illegal? There are many other companies in different industries offering similar platforms. Regardless of the legality Regarding sandbaggers scammers, etc. Obviously there's no safe guard, this would most likely only apeal to elite level players. Not newcomers to the game of golf. Thanks The bet would only be between players third party bets obviously would not be allowed.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
