I have a TaylorMade r580 Driver. Before you curl into a ball of hate that I'm using a club that's around 10yr old, I hit it really well, average of 286.2 yards with a slight fade. I was in the test center of GolfSmith and the guy there told me that instead of getting a new driver I should try a new shaft because the shaft of the one I Have(stock shaft) is absolutely terrible. I had no idea, I've been hitting it so well I thought it was fine. I was told a better shaft could give me up to 15 more yards per drive. Opinions?

Did the guy actually put you on the launch monitor and see what your numbers are? If not then he has no clue if a new golf shaft would benefit you or not.

Yes, before we even tested any drivers we spent 15 minutes with my own taking swings. I don't know any numbers but I trust he's right about it.

Depends on the fitter. Some guys are good, some guys make baseless claims. It would be nice if you knew the numbers.

For your swing speed, you probably want low to mid 2000's spin rate. Something like 2200. You'd probably want the launch angle to be in the mid teens.
