I had one of those great moments in golf on Sunday. You know the one. You're at the range and sat in the bucket of range balls is a mint, shiny real ball.

Now, ive never been a huge fan of Titleist balls mainly down to their price compared to similar offerings, but tried the Solo on the short game area and liked the feel of it off the wedges and putter. Is it any good on full shots?

Would anyone recommend this ball as an alternative to the AD333 (we can still get this in the UK)

I played DT Solos for two years. Good ball at that price point, decent enough feel. Still my first choice when playing a cheaper ball now that Gamers are more or less extinct in Canada.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Yeah, the Gamers never really took off here which was a shame as people rave about them. There doesnt seem to be the same amount of choice in the 2 piece market as used to be

Theyre a very good ball at a lower price point.  I used to play the old DT Carry and have found a few DT Solos on the course and theyre a great ball if you are looking for something at a lower price point.

I found the ball to be average low end ball.  Ball goes slightly longer on lower swing speed, has less spin and don't hold greens.   When you chip, you have to know how far it will roll.    Feel is ok.   Bottom line, nothing stood out for me.   For the same price, Bridgestone E6 is proven better for me.

It is unfortunate you cannot get the Maxfli Softfli or the Gamer Soft in the UK (mail order?) since they are in a different class than most of the other low compression balls I have played.  The DT SoLo is not a bad low compression 2 piece ball, but I would also try the Callaway Supersoft, TM Aeroburner Soft, or Nike PD Soft if you can get them.  I have never tried the Chrome Soft but it has great reviews and a urethane cover and is 3-piece design. The Gamer Soft is the only 3 piece ionomer covered ball that I am aware of and is available at $30 for 2 dozen - it may be worth the shipping fees.

I've been playing it lately as I had a bad run this year and progressively went down from ProV1x to NXT Tour and down to DT Solo as I lost more and more balls to being erratic. I don't like them around greens, they run out too much. But for full shots, I haven't had issues. Drop and stop on irons into the green, always about a foot in front of their pitch marks. Other two models would pull back a bit, but that's fine as long as I play for it.

I'd go for Callaway Supersofts, Bridgestone e Series, or a Srixon ball unless you got a great deal on a Titleist.

Might have a look at the Callies. Used to play the Srixon Distance when i started but they changed the compression and ruined it for me. I think Bridgestone have also released the extra soft.

I recently did a little "virtual" shopping and noticed some interesting balls for sale throug large retailers. Taylormade XP for £9.99, Callaway CXR control (3 piece) £11.99. Think these are the Sports Direct specials so not sure on how good they are

Taylormade RBZ stage 2 balls for £11 didnt seem bad, however they have stopped stocking the Noodles

They're a good ball.   No better for me than the cheaper TF D2 though...

I like them.  I play with vintage gear a good bit, and like a softer ball. To me the Callaway Supersoft, DT Solo, and Wilson Duo are pretty much interchangeable, and all are $20 at WalMart.

I cant recommend it in good conscience. Mainly because imho the wilson 50 elite is vastly superior and six dollars a dozen cheaper. The 50 elite is the only non urethane golf ball I play.

The problem is we don't know what's available in England, and what the prices are. I did read a book about a golf pilgrimage to Scotland where the host advised his guest to bring a lot of balls in his luggage, since any ball he might be familiar with would cost twice as much over there!

So, if you're prepared to fork over $45 a dozen for Pro-V1's over here, get ready for $90 a dozen over there! Hmmmmm. Import tariffs anyone?

It is a little squishy. If you have a slow swing speed they are fine. I find a ton of them, those old geezers have bad eyes....
