Modified Stableford Format

• Double Eagle: 8 points
• Eagle: 5 points
• Birdie: 2 points
• Par: 1 points

The twist is, if you get two bogies in a row you reset your points to zero or if you get a double bogey or worse.

Interesting idea for a game, especially for better players. Thoughts? Does anyone else have a favorite format for competing or points?

Oh yeah, very similar to 'Escrow'. Only modifications is you bank each 9 separately, i.e., you bank points after first 9 and start fresh for 2nd 9 to not lose the entire round on 17th and 18th or just 18th.  Little less brutal.

Another one is 'Pass the money'. Each of the 4 some contributes $5 to the pot. Money pot starts with whoever wins honor. The order for tee shot the entire round is pre-decided and does not change throughout the round. The player loses the money if: double bogie, three putt (even if par) or hit in the hazard to the next in line. But retains it to next hole if two putt bogie, par, birdie etc. Another player (regardless of whether they are next in line or not) can take it they score birdie or better to the owners par. Of course owner's birdie negates anybody else's birdie to retain pot to next hole.

I have won and lost many a pot on the 18th.

I hate playing those kind of games. Straight up quota game is best.

Here's a format I played with my daughter when I started getting her on a regulation course. I thought it was great for a young golfer playing with her dad...

It starts out like a modified Chapman...

1) We both hit drives

2) For the second shot we hit each other's ball

3) Then, on the the third shot, my daughter got to pick the ball she wanted to play into the hole, and I had the other one.

We had a great time with this format. Before I knew it, she was playing her own ball, and using the handicap system, she would beat me half of the time.

We always played the men's tees, so she got used to a longer course. When she had to play the ladies she thought that she was cheating, compared to when we played. That was especially beneficial when she played high school golf and lettered 4 years.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
