Ping G30 Irons; Graphite shafts keep breaking at hosel

Need some help with graphite shafts.  I started golfing about three years ago with Cobra S3 Max, regular flex graphite shaft irons.  Loved them.  I decided to upgrade this year and got Ping G30s.  I was told I needed stiff flex shafts.  (I hit a 7i 170ish).  Golf pro fitted me with silver dot and added about an 1 inch and a half in length. (I am 6'5").  I like the clubs but all of the shafts have splintered at the hosel.  Ping re-shafted all of them.  Unfortunately it is happening again.  I use to think I was hitting the clubs too fat on the range mat, but I have not used the range hardly at all on the new shafts and the 9i just splintered on the course over the weekend.  I do hit fat shots from time to time but my Cobras lasted three years - when I really sucked.

So my question is, do Ping shafts break easily, or are stiff shafts less forgiving on fat shots and break easier than regular flex?  Should I have Ping put regular flex shafts in or go to steel?  I like graphite - less vibration.

I would say switch to steel shafts if you can. I don't know much about graphite shafts in irons because I haven't had any irons with them for a long time, but steel shafts should hold up better.

Do you live in a warm climate and/or  leave the clubs in the car most of the time? High temperatures can weaken the resin and cause the graphite to break apart prematurely.

The combination of silver dot ( 3.75 upright) and 1.5 inches longer seems a lot, even for someone 6-5. Do you tend to hit shots toward the hosel or pulled shots? I've been told that this is harder on the graphite shaft than center or toe strikes. Also, if you were interested in steel shafts  you might consider having "sensicore" inserts added at the tip. These dampen the vibrations quite a bit.

[/quote] I'm 6'5" and have silver dot at +1" long. And as you can see in my my swing thread, I'd have no problem with an extra 1/2". I don't think it's odd at all.
