As a parent of two kids who are getting into golf, I found this idea pretty interesting, since basically I am buying two sets of clubs every year for them as they grow.

Not so much a good idea. It is gimmicky. As a child grows not only does the shaft length change, but more importantly the club head lie angle will need to be adjusted. They do not solve that issue.

I don't think the lie angle is that much of an issue.

1. Fiddling with the length can compensate for lie angle a little bit.

2. Most junior clubs are made with cheaper, more brittle metals like zinc that prevent them from being properly bent anyway.

I wouldn't think that would be a problem. Lie angle might become a problem as a child grew if you DIDNT lengthen the shaft because he'd have to stand closer to the ball to get the club to reach the ground or he'd have to hunch over awkwardly. But if you can lengthen it as he grows then everything can grow in proportion.
