I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year seriously, had some lessons as a child.

My current handicap index or average score is: Handicap 20

My typical ball flight is: can miss it both ways but I tend to pull.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: pull with irons, fade with driver/3W

Videos:

Three swings, all struck OK, the first two with a 9 iron and the third is my 3 wood all slight pulls. Sorry about the truncated videos, I'd trimmed them on my phone before I decided to upload them here.

Thanks for posting. It is a pretty nice swing in general. Your head is nice and steady (Key 1). You do have some weight shift forward on the downswing (key 2). You maybe could shift a little more forward on the downswing. Flaring your feet a bit can make it easier to shift your weight more forward because the left knee will flex more forward instead of toward the ball. This, in addition, can help the swing path go out more right. Then your starting line will be more right and can reduce pulling shots. It would turn into more of a push draw.

This would apply to the woods as well.

Thanks boogielicious , to clarify, when you say "left knee will flex more forward" do you mean forward as in towards target, or do you mean forwards as in the way I'm facing (and I'm currently rotating it towards my back leg)? Sorry, I get a little bit confused with these sorts of terms.

Also just to note 3W is hit off the tee, not the deck.

Towards the target. Flexing it past the ankle.

Thanks @mvmac , the visuals were very helpful for understanding this.

There is some progress here looking at that front knee getting forward of the front foot, looking more like the image above, but is still a work in progress.

Make sure to turn those feet out. Check out the thread @boogielicious posted.

Updated swing - sorry about the angle is a little bit behind (the back foot is more flared than it looks here :8) ) but I can see progress in terms of weight forward - also in terms of contact, very few mishits and tighter dispersion with the short irons.

Going to sound like a broken record but would still like to see you turn your feet out more along with the knees.

Will help you free up the hip turn.

Thanks mvmac, not wanting to seem like I'm not listening, will turn out feet and knees more.

Yeah it might feel a little awkward at first but it'll help you turn more and make it easier for the weight to get forward on the downswing.

I had a lesson and my instructor (who I'm very happy with) identified a reasonably major issue with my swing. My left arm separated from my body, de-lofting the club a lot and meaning my dynamic loft was in a situation where the club was aimed left as the shaft was leaning forward. I understand fully the reason for this, as I played cricket for many years, where if you look at 1:17-1:25 of this video the technique I learned for 17 years - this movement while good for cricket is not helpful for a golf swing.

.

Having worked pretty hard paring back the swing, swinging slowly, changing the picture doing 3/4 swing to change how the front arm felt - I'm now in a position where I'm trying to make these changes and I'm now getting a significantly higher ball flight and more connection in between upper arm and torso.

Hopefully you'll see from this (sorry about the angle, again it is a bit too far behind)

- steadiness of the head, I'm happy with this

- flared out feet and knees - teacher commented how much better my posture was having made this change.

- connectedness of front arm (especially when compared to first swings in this thread)

Issues I have with this swing

- not a full turn on the backswing (but better)

- weight could get a bit further forward

I've worked on these with my teacher in the past and am now trying to put it all (well this much of it) together.

Good swing with a solid foundation but lacking in overall gracefulness from to much grip pressure and lack of lower body flexibility. Everyone is built differently so what you need to work on is your set up. Flare your feet out at address and take a stance that is only marginally wider than your shoulders, also try to lighten your grip pressure! This should add some greater rotation and a bigger back swing. A good drill for you is to take a graphite driver shaft broken ones work or break one from a junk club. Go ahead and wrap some computer paper and masking tape on the tip to add some marginal weight say 25 grams or whatever until you feel it. Make some swings until you hear the whoosh at the bottom of the down swing. At first you will be miles early and wont be able to make a swing because your choking the club to death and don't understand the concept of whip and downswing timing.

Thanks for the feedback. Agreed flexibility is an issue for me but I am working towards improving it (yoga etc).

Attached is a video from the driving range today. 5 iron from the grass. I'm not upset with how this is looking (given the things I've been working on) - I think I can see feet/knees flared much more , more shoulder turn in back swing and good attachment of left upper arm to torso after impact. Last couple of rounds I have been hitting the ball better than I have in terms of launch, contact, lack of really bad shots (misses are much smaller).

Hips don't really slide forward, they maintain about the same axis tilt as at A4 and just spin. Left knee stays flexed, very little pushing the hips forward and UP in the follow through. Arms fly past.

Hi @iacas - thanks for the feedback - I'm sorry I didn't thank you earlier. In my subsequent lesson we worked on getting 'under plane' with the club which involved getting the hips forward allowing the arms to swing through where the right ribs were, and getting the feeling of 'posting' on my front leg.

I have been improving slowly in terms of scoring, handicap is trending downwards slowly. The reason I went to update this is I made my first eagle today. 490yd par 5. Driver, 4 wood, putt.

I've been having some trouble putting lately (speed and bead!), was wondering if anyone had some advice as to the best way to film putting (what camera angles, what length of putt)?

Use the same camera angles as you do for the full swing. Post 5, 10, 20 and 40. That will give us a range to see if you are doing things differently on the longer putts. For speed, check out the tread below. I use the swing thought of letting gravity control the club on the downswing.
