FWIW, the divot holes seen here qualify as "trenches."

I voted the second option, but kind of in between brushing grass and bacon strips. When I hit it well, I rip out the grass just at the root without taking much soil with it, if any. Sometimes I won't take a divot at all and the grass just gets a little scuffed up.

If it was about 2 years ago I would have voted trenches. I can take some serious divots if the ground is soft enough. Most of the time, my divots are much more shallower and smaller.

My divots are usually nice little bacon strips. Very rarely do I dig a ditch.

I typically do just like Bill, brush the grass or rip the grass up by the roots. On the rare occasions I actually take a divot it's usually a fat shot.

Pork chops with my Ping Wedges, trenches with my Edel. Bacon with my mid irons...brush the turf with long irons and woods.

The size of divots I used to have in high school were mind blowing. People used to burst into laughter when I would get paired up with them and I would hit a short iron. Then I would have to go grab my toupee sized turf and fill the hole where night crawlers were starting to squirm out. I had a figure 8 type of swing where I came so shallow I would basically touch my heels (not actually but you get the picture) then I would manage to bring the club completely over top and then hit down on the ball with all my might. That was when I was swinging my driver close to 118ish mph on the swing monitors. Divots the size of your head.

I usually take a nice little pork chop out off the ground, unless it's wet out. If it's wet I have a group of scientists that follow me to study the mantle of the planet when I need to hit a 3/4 wedge shot. I get a feeling of satisfaction from replacing a divot after a solid strike, similar to fixing a ball mark on the green. I'm assuming that bacon and pork chop (hopefully) are the "correct" answers here?

I voted pork chop, but that is really for my wedges only and only a full shot. The divots diminish as I move up. If I take partial wedge shots, the divots are smaller too.  I used to dig trenches, but all the work I've done on Evolvr to shallow my swing has reduced the divot.

And, I agree with @Pretzel about wet ground. I had one on Tuesday that could have replaced Trump's toupee.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year. 
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind. 
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes. 
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks. 
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
