Playing a round with ONLY the driver?

How is this for going against  conventional wisdom?  Many  in this forum talk about putting the driver away or using another club when it gives trouble. I'm considering just the opposite:

Play only driver from tee off to putting. Kind of trial by fire until that damn club becomes the most second nature of all. Anyone else tried this? I'l let you know how it works out.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Funny. I was worried about pitching. Maybe grant bunkers as lone exception. Hey it's still in the conceptual stage....

Sorry, but for the purpose you're describing, I think that it's a terrible idea. Modern, long-shafted, large-head drivers are very difficult to hit off the deck with any consistency. For a high hcp player to make any decent contact at all, he's going to tend to get much steeper with his swing than is appropriate or desirable off a tee. Simultaneously, he's going to be reinforcing a flatter, less downward strike than he wants for iron shots. As such his "practice" will likely do much more harm than good by reinforcing bad driver swing habits on the tee box and equally poor habits when he gets an iron back in his hands in the fairway.

I play with someone that when he is under a tree after his tee shot, he will chip with his driver and usually end up right next to the green, it's pretty funny.

Today's drivers are meant to hit off a tee only.

Occasionally, you will see a Rickie Fowler hit driver off the deck, but it is rare and usually only with a great lie.

At the moment, I can't think of anything worse for your swing than hitting driver on all shots for 18 holes.

He's got a lot of talent. He could just as well tell everyone to warm up by hitting a few 300 yard drives to begin their range session. . .

I think a lot of people missed my point. Of course using the driver to hit all over the course is TOTALLY unlike the normal driver shot. That's kind of the idea.All these different things would seem to me make you more comfortable with the club - like an extension of your body. Maybe I'm nuts.

You can use it all day as a walking stick, sleep with it  or attach an umbrella to it. It won't help you off the tee.

It's the swing that does it.

      I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆
