Hey guys Just got this delivered from China today and was wondering if it looks fake to anyone? I have noticed it is missing a serial number, the grip does not say vokey and the face has worn quickly as I have hit about 50 balls at the range this afternoon with it (I have already cleaned the face with water and towel) Any help would be great! Thanks

First, welcome to the forum.

Not sure if this helps as I am not an club expert, but the Vokey I recently bought had a grip with the Vokey logo on it instead of Titleist, as well as a different sticker on the shaft below the grip. My clubface also doesn't look worn at all but I have to say I have the Tour Chrome edition, while this looks like a different one. Not sure if and where the serial number is, never looked for it as I bought it at a trustworthy shop in the Netherlands. I'm not able to post pics at the moment, but maybe others could also give their opinion?

A major concern is the little pin wheel on that finish is shown as silver on the Titleist Website and not black as shown on yours (see below). Typically the shaft label will be the type of shaft, which for vokey is a stock True Temper, Dynamic Gold. I do believe the grips now have the BV Logo on them as well.

Gold Nickel Finish

Sadly signs are pointing towards this being a very good knock off of the SM5 wedge in my opinion.

golfauprice was the website where I purchased the wedge from, disappointed to say the least

You have to suspect anything from China unfortunately.

No serial number is a dead giveaway. My SM5's shaft labels also specify wedge flex and also specify "SM5", not just generic Vokey. Finally, the 56/10 markings strike me as too far down the toe from what I've seen. My vote says fake. If you got them at a great price, and like the way they feel, there's not really any reason not to play them though.

If it seems too good to be true them it probably is. If buying online, stay away from the ones that only accept debit (not credit) cards or have "non commercial" emails, like hotmail, yahoo etc.

There has been a lot of that happening here in the UK recently with cheap chinese made clubs being sold on a number of sites opereated by the same person with a couple priced at RRP and others at heaviliy discounted prices to draw the punters in.

on a less serious note, i was hoping it would be an obvious fake with the "e" missing fromn Titleist :-P

The marking on my 56 are in the same spot. Where they put the markings may depend on the loft and/or grind. I agree with the serial number issue though

the finish looks totally fake to me. too shiny like metallics or plenty of mica in paint more than a special metallic fine club maker finish.

the grip is thin at the end. the but is awfully groves, there is dust from manufaturing. doesn't look like a fine petrol product from good pride.

the markings looks like inflated ink such as thermography or cheap filmographie. more than carved deep good aliage that is inked in the dents than smoothed or such.

the hosel embosing near the shaft seams a different patern in numbers of /////? they are too close and poor in finish. not smooth.

the tape on the shaft is place sideways. very strange.

the band is in black on yours yet white on the web page in this topics, one color less is cheaper (white).

maybe the photo and your question influenced me but still. looks cheap in  many ways. of course the web pic is photoshopped it looks better.

why buy a wedge in china it's 100 euros (120 DS) on good sites and you can find almost new half the price on forums ?

Grips usually have a very strong rubber smell compared to fakes.

You bought the nickel finish? Yeah pretty sure it's fake. Different paint fill on the Titleist and SM5 wheel.

is it a good club though ?

I bough a bay hill arnold palmer full stand bag with 13 clubs and breaked 80 with it. 90 euros (say 115 USD delivery included)

great clubs yet grinded pratice balls a lot with very hard steel like grading cheese with the grooves. had chips of yellow like pencil sharps left in the grooves on every shot.

    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
    • At a basic level, you can take those strokes gained numbers and if you know what the baseline strokes to hole out is from each distance, you can figure out how many strokes on average you will take to hole out from any given spot on the golf course. Then you can take that shot zone thing from shotscope and put it down there and see what the average is for each club and each target you choose. That's not exactly trivial to do though even with a computer, so the strategy guides (like LSW) use rules of thumb to make those decisions easier for you to make on the fly. Most of the time you'll come up with the optimal strategy and on the odd occasion when you don't, the strategy you come up with will be pretty darn close to optimal. If you're anything like me, then you'll probably wind up being a little too conservative with both club choice and target. Fear of penalty strokes can make you play suboptimally. Basically it's a bad idea to base your strategy on a shot that might pop up less than 1 in 20 times. If you happen to hit that shot, then today just isn't your day, but the 19 times you don't, you'll be in that much better of a spot.
    • That sounds like a small sample size issue. What if the PGA tour event he was trying to get into just happened to fit his game perfectly? Also, he could just be playing hot right now. I’ll put this in the wait-and-see category.
    • I've used a construction laser for years. Far less expensive than the PuttAim laser.
