Eta for a good consumer launch monitor.

I had my first TrackMan session this week and found it really useful to be able to see the data for my swings and compare it to the feel. is this technology likely to trickle down to consumer level any time soon? If there was a unit for 500 bucks (or less!) that showed club and ball data (including launch angles and spin) then it seems like that would be a great product. I've seen there are some products out there already but the big thing that's missing seems to me to be the launch characteristics of the ball - using a fixed angle based on the club you are hitting seems to be quite a big approximation. Are there reasons why this type of kit is always going to be many thousands of dollars or is it just a matter of time before it becomes much more accessible?

Voice Caddie SC200 is coming out soon.

A device like that only measures ball speed and the rest of the data is calculated using that and the club you select.

I'm sure the tech cost will come down just like anything else. But in the golf market nothing really gets cheap so I wouldn't expect something too accessible anytime soon.

It also measures club head speed so you get smash factor figured in.

Idk, the webpage seems pretty vague about what it actually measures. If you look at the spec chart they have here  http://www.voicecaddie.com/en-us/17/SC100 it only mentions the accuracy of the ball speed and carry numbers.

That is interesting about the measuring range being up to 300 yds. I had always assumed that most of the data is captured at a very short range and then some kind of simulation took care of the actual predicted flight. Does that value actually mean the range over which it can take measurements or the range over which it can predict ?! Even after reading through the webpages of most of the currently available launch monitors I am left a bit confused as to what and how accurately they are measuring.

It might be the maximum speed it measures? Doppler radar usually does something called an FFT on the baseband data, and is limited by the sample rate and window size. The window size could be the limiting factor?

Pretty sure the 30--320 yards is for predicted yardage. I imagine the radar records only the first few feet of flight.

Depends upon the power from the radar. Many single chip solutions only output 10mW or less, those would be limited to a few feet. If you put a 36dBm or higher PA on the output and a lower noise LNA, you might be able to get out to much further.

I'm kind of anxious to take one apart, not sure the coach would appreciate me bringing a screwdriver with me though. . . :-D

I don't think you're going to find something reasonable anywhere near the $500 mark. The closest reasonable option currently seems like the SkyTrak by SkyGolf at $2K

For my Zelocity radar I believe it said the radar extends about 10 feet in the manual. Don't really need any more than that to get the ball speed.

That seems reasonable for most shots.
