This is one situation I find myself thinking about a lot, as there's so much choice to it. Whether the green approach is flat or elevated or something else. Whether to chip, pitch, or go into full swing territory, and with which clubs, at which distances. Whats your stance/ball position like? Follow-through thoughts/etc.

Just curious to hear how people view it.

It really is dependent on the situation. Majority of the time it will be a pitch for 20 to 30 and a partial wedge or pitch from 30 to 60. But again, each situation is different. I do most of my pitching with a gap wedge or PW.

I'll hit a sand wedge unless I have a lot of green to work with and then I'll try to hit a runny gap wedge. My lob is for emergencies only these days and I'm better for I think. I was over reliant on it before.

I use a LW to PW for under 30 yards and its a lob-chip motion. 30-80 yards I use LW to PW use either a knockdown punch or pitch motion depending on the lie and green conditions The main difference is inside 30 yards the shaft moves more "linear". Outside 30 yards I "torque" the shaft

My lob wedge is my favorite club, so I would probably use it for most of these shots. I hit it 1/4 about 30 yards, 1/2 about 50, 3/4 about 75. Depending on the green, however, I would use a SW for tweener yardages (40 and 60) - if there's a back pin location and a flat green, I may opt for the SW, which spins less for me. If I'm from 20 or 30 and it's a long green with a back pin, I'm usually pulling AW or PW.

I have a tough time with short pitches out of deep rough from 20-40 yards, so I may opt for SW there if it feels right.

60° from 85 or 90 in. From 30 or so in, choke up almost to the steel, left wrist locked, off my back foot, feet aimed left, 80% of my weight on my left side. I'm pretty good from this distance although I sometimes struggle with check and run. Seems when I want it to check, it runs out and vice versa. 35-80, variations on the full swing, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. 85-90 full out swing, one of my favorite shots to hit actually. So high and pretty, stops close to dead or sucks back most of the time depending on the green and the ball I'm using.

I do SW for everything 55 and in unless I need to get over something and stop quick (LW) or if I'm in a bump and run situation (usually PW but I'll chip with irons if the situation calls for it.)

I don't like using more than half swings with my SW but my GW I'll hit 55-100. I used to subscribe to the Pelz clock method but it was too mechanical with me. I like knowing those "tweener" yardages but then backswing to about a middle ground and use feel when I'm in between my tweeners if that makes sense.

I'm decent from all those yardages. I usually use my 56 degree wedge with the only thing that changes is how much back swing to apply. My follow through is equal to my back swing

20 yards out:

I would hit a pitch shot with my lob wedge, a somewhat soft one by my standards, and account for it to roll out some since I don't have enough clubhead speed to really generate spin, only height.

30 yards out:

Another pitch shot with my 60* wedge, but this time a "full" pitch shot that will roll a bit less upon landing due to greater height and spin.

40 yards out:

I will hit a "full" pitch shot with my 56* wedge, that will end up rolling out about the same as my 20 yard shot.

50 yards out:

I will hit a "full" pitch shot with my 52* wedge, which rolls out slightly more than my 20 yard shot.

60 yards out:

This is a half swing with my 60* wedge, which doesn't have much roll on it as long as I have a decent lie.

20 yards - skull over the green

30 yards - clubhead passes under the ball, ball falls straight down into groove I just cut

40 yards - fat

50 yards - shank

60 yards - decelerate and flub way short

oops, sorry - let me rephrase correctly

20 yards - golf skull over the golf green

30 yards - golf clubhead passes under the golf ball, golf ball falls straight down into golf groove I just golf cut

40 yards - golf fat

50 yards - golf shank

60 yards - golf decelerate and golf flub way short leaving me a nice 40 yarder to hit fat

      I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

      Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
