Martin Kaymer loses PGA tour card for 2015-16

Strange, he must of known this would happen, no?

And what's even more strange is he is back on the tour for 2016-17, because if his 2014 US Open win, it's crazy.

Essentially, he only played 13 events this season and needed 15.  If he broke the top 125 in FedEx Cup points (he's 139) he could have played in the playoffs and gotten 15 events in.

The strange (to me) part:

Kaymer can still play up to 12 events on the PGA Tour next season and is a regular member of the European Tour. According to the PGA Tour, he can re-obtain status on its tour starting in the 2016-17 season because he has a multi-year exemption.

If he has a multi-year exemption, why does he lose his card for next season?

He can still play in 12 events, which must include the majors, so this is really no big deal, just weird.

It's not a big deal for Kaymer; he won't have any problem receiving an invitation from whatever tournament he wants to play. It's a bigger deal for up-and-coming players who actually need sponsor's invitations for access to PGA Tour events, which has a much greater importance now that Q-School has been abolished. Guys like Beau Hossler, Jon Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau will now have twelve fewer attempts to earn their tour cards because a player who is otherwise exempt many times over is losing his card over a technicality.

Is it 12 over and above those he is exempt into due to his World Ranking and standing on the European Tour, or does it include those?

He has exemptions for the 4 majors, the 3 WGC events that are co-sanctioned next year, his World Ranking will get him in the Players and the Bridgestone. Which leaves him just three invites to take for regular tour events.

I think they let Tiger keep his card because they know it ticks haters on TST off.....

Tiger has a Lifetime Tour Card. You earn it after winning 20 events.
