The reason for this glove -to-hand placement is that the "top" hand on a golf club is the lead hand, meaning its grip is of essence. Because of this, righties wear a glove on their left hands, and vice versa.

The glove is not for protection. It's for increased friction while holding it so the club does not fly off during the swing.

bah - you never hear the phrase "release the club"?

the glove is obviously to remind the golfer which wrist has the fancy jewelry-like expensive watch he's wearing - and to give said golfer more opportunities to fidget with that hand, thus displaying his wealth more prominently in front of the other males.

i was wondering why golfers only wear one glove and why on the opposite hand

A lot of us don't wear a glove at all.  I keep one in my bag in case I need to use it if it rains a little, and I have a pair of winter golf gloves which I mostly just put on so my hands don't get cold driving the golf cart or pushing my trolley.  I take them off to swing.

+1... i have never played with a glove... i didn't have the money to buy them when i first started playing, so that is how i learned, and i never changed... i do have a pair of "rain gloves" in my bag just in case... i think i've had the same pair for 15 years, lol...
