Sometimes even having Keys 2 and 3 doesn't guarantee a good shot :-P

I was expecting something a little more muddy. I tried that trick- once- and will never do it again. The ball was at the edge of the water sitting on mud. No problem, I thought, as I set up. Of course I hit it fat and sent mud flying everywhere. I was wearing khaki shorts and a tan shirt. My whole front was covered. My sunglasses were completely blocked. Needless to say, my friends completely lost it. I washed up the best I could at the next tee box water station, but my clothes were trashed. Not a big deal finishing the last few holes, but the cart drop off and walk through the clubhouse and out to the car was a bit embarrassing. Never again. .

There was another ball in there. Is he positive he is hitting the right one? That would add insult to injury.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

Looked like there were several balls in there.  I hit out of a muddy fairway edge a few weeks ago, my shirt and shorts were not happy with that.  Wasn't horrible but enough to teach me a lesson.

He spends the first 30 seconds of the video (plus whatever they cut out) building a stance in the mud with his feet.  "Building a stance" is a penalty that has gotten guys DQ'd in the past but I suppose nobody wanted to stop him while he's busy shooting himself in the foot anyway.

I think it's pretty subjective.  He's allowed to take a stance and it looked like his foot kept slipping.

In addition, I see players working their feet into the sand of a sand trap all the time without being DQ'd.  Couldn't this be seen as something similar to that?

Building a stance is actually quite different from taking a stance. What I saw was a player who could not keep from slipping in the muddy water and was simply trying to find solid footing. Just my $0.02 worth.

Mr. Malnati has a blog. I didn't think there were any players who actually string together sentences and paragraphs anymore, it's all 140 characters. It's not a bad read:

I guess lots of aspiring players write down positive thoughts nowadays. Didn't Dicky Pride write something like this. If it works...

I didn't realize this attempt was at Pumpkin Ridge. The par 3 he did it on is a tricky hole. I am surprised he could stand at all. This past weekend at my home club in Oregon I was fishing another member of my groups ball out of the water and slipped in to about knee high. Sad part was after getting the ball out during the slip I kicked it back in the water and it was lost. My group had a good laugh.

    • Listened to Joe on the Sweet Spot while driving to work and it reminded me about this thread.   This thread is great and the “how to” is much easier to understand than other sources I’ve seen trying to explain it. Tried it indoors into a net but will need to give it a shot with a launch monitor or outside on the practice green.
    • I hear ya. The defacto leadership seems to have cost him at many levels including his day job performance and nari a dime to show for it.
    • Ok, it's been a while, but I finally got the 18th hole! It was the only one left over from last year and it took 14 months, but I got it today. It is a slight dogleg right, plays 425 up to an elevated green into the prevailing wind. Playing slightly up, I hit driver and had about 160 into the green. Hit 6 iron to 4 feet and with a straight uphill putt made it center cut! Now I can stop thinking about that hole!  All I have left this year is 5, 15, and 17.  Let's Go!
    • He’s just tired of fighting. And being asked. And just tired.
    • Yeah, that's what most of the guys there were saying. I'm guessing they weren't able to cut them due to all the rain. Or maybe they are growing really fast and since we tee'd off at 6PM... 😜
