Anyone have anything weird happen to their bodies after really getting into golf? I have this strange joint lock thing going on with my left pinky finger. Like if I make a fist it locks into place and I have to really pull on it to get it to pop back. Started happening almost immediately after picking up the game again this spring.

Yeah, all the aches and pains and damage I did to my body over the years has flared up. It sucks getting old. I'll tell you that being an aging athlete is no fun.

I've got that, too, and a big callous on the right hand finger next to the pinkie.

Bend back your wrist each morning holding your fingers with the other hand as resistance. Keep it for 20-30 seconds. Gets rid to elbow pain, too.

Weird thing occurred with spike shoes -- an injury. Torqued my left knee on a driver swing at the range -- that was weird.  Two days on ice, hit wedges today. Back to spikeless shoes. Make sure the toes are turned out at address.

Will do, thanks. And yeah I can definitely see how spikes can cause injury.

My right big toenail sometimes feels like it's going to pop off and start spurting blood. Depends on the shoes I'm wearing and how hard I happen to push off on that back foot.

intermittent lower back pain/stiffness. Sometimes, I can hit balls for ages. Sometimes, I can hit them for ten minutes. It's a wonderful thing

The past two weeks, I have a tendon in the ring finger of my left hand, causing slight discomfort when I first grip the club.

After hitting a few shots, it stops aching and there are no difficulties or discomfort.

Weird feeling is the best description.

Had no idea but do now. Middle finger, right hand started locking and popping 6 months ago. Comes and goes but most of the time its stuck. Trigger finger sucks! Had the toenail issue as well but not recently.

The only thing I have is a weird tendon thing in my back. It's between my left shoulder blade and my spine, and I can oftentimes feel it pop sideways in my downswing around impact. It's a feeling like it's slipping over the top of a muscle or another tendon. It's kind of odd and I saw a doctor about it when it started happening, but it's apparently not harmful.

Golfers elbow in both arms and an ugly toenail on the foot that I push off with.  Advil keeps the pain in my arms at bay and I usually wear socks so no one sees the toenail but me.

Been hurt for two years. Golf takes a toll on my left Achilles and lower back. Latest sore zone is right ribs. I train all year to avoid injury but always sore.

Besides other ailments, one that is annoying is "stinging fingers" on both hands. The pinky and ring fingers hurt after the first drive. I have tried stretching and hitting pitches and chips before heading out on the course. I have tried looser grip pressure and doing warmups by doing slow swings or just letting the club weight suspend on the fingers. I'm a righty and it seems to be worse with the right hand. As I'm heading up to hit my second, it is like those two fingers do nt want to squeeze into my palm like the rest. It is still there while playing the rest of the round but not as pronounced.

Good excuse to get a monthly massage.

Good excuse to get a monthly massage.

Ha ha, I wish. It is a similar feeling to when you get a massage and they work on a tendon or muscle by sort of pushing it out, then letting it snap back into place. Less pleasant though, for sure.

I suppose a weird thing that's not necessarily an injury would be that I have a perpetual case of dry, calloused hands and a lump on the outside of my right ring finger. The former is caused by my distaste for lotion in dry Colorado combined with grips that do a very good job of removing moisture from my hands. I call the latter my "golfer's bump" (similar to people who have a "writer's bump") since it's caused by the second knuckle on my left index finger pressing against the outside of the third knuckle on my right ring finger. Funnily enough, the index finger has nothing at all on it while the ring finger has a raised callous there.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
