i think probably the most common choices would be Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia. Outside the box i would say Ryan Moore could be a rising star and i really like Aaron Baddeley but i don't think he will get to the Tiger, Phil, Ernie and Vijay category.

Aaron Baddeley, Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose.

I agree with this one as well. I also don't really see Vijay or Els in the "Big 4" anymore. Tiger and Phil are really the only two that are always in contention now. Or so it seems.

Actually, I'm not really sure there's a "Big 4" anymore. What about Furyk? I think there's Tiger all by himself.... then Phil as the guy who could pose the biggest challenge. I think the obvious choices to your question are Sergio Garcia and Adam Scott. Both are top 10 players who could get into that top echelon within a year. Justin Rose, Paul Casey, Luke Donald also come to mind and could also have a shot in the near future. How old is Henrik Stenson? Also, maybe not next year but within 3 years someone like Anthony Kim could rise. What I'd be curious to know is what American under 30 you guys think could rise to superstar status? All (or most) of the guys we tend to talk about are foreign.

Michelle Wie will definitely be a super star before shes 30, it will be for all the wrong reasons though (being a commodity and upsetting lots of people because of silly behaviour i.e. withdrawing from a tourny as she was close to the "88" mark and then not apologizing to Annika Sorenstam) the quality of her golf will not be a issue.

I'd have to agree about Scott and Garcia. The only thing about those two, though, is that they always seem to mess up at the most inoppurtune times when they're in contention to win a big event. Do you think they'll overcome those bad habits over time, and start winning more regularly? I've also heard rumors that neither one is exactly a tireless practicer (not sure if that's true or not).

She doesn't count.

I hate to say it because it's uncreative, but Adam Scott is my choice. I think he is close as it is. I really don't see any young player who is going to be able to challenge Tiger in the next few years but Scott is the best then Badds. Is Luke Donald over 30? I'm not picking him, I'm just wondering.

scott, garcia arnt improving, luke donald is going through a dry spell atm :( and i feel that casey spends to much time on the european tour too become a superstar, so counting them out the more obvious choices are badds for his looks, his 'unusual swing' and dress sense etc, and justin rose for his charm and great game. other potential people could be Camilo Vijjegas (sp?) and bubba watson

edit: hate michelle wie

Rory McElroy has an amazing swing. I don't know a lot abut him, but the few tournaments I have seen him I've been impressed. Now, I say this with some hesitation because he is so young, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I see Anthony Kim as a 22-year old in the top 100 OWGR. It looked for a while as if J.B. Holmes could do it, but he's seemingly fallen off the map since winning last year. At least he's in the top 125 at the moment.

Adam Scott, certainly.

There are plenty of talented female players in their late teens to early 20s, such as one major winner this year.

Bingo! He's the first name that popped in my head when I read the thread title.

I do like those picking Justin Rose too.
