New driver shaft, new issue.

So I started playing this summer and love the sport. I recently upgraded my driver from a top flite gamer to a bio cell driver which I've managed to hit pin straight or a slight draw set to 11.5*. Recently I broke the shaft of the driver, a project x pxv I belive. Cobra did replace the shaft free of charge but it's a matrix vlct - sp I belive, and I can't do anything but fade the ball. I also seem to make worse contact. my question is, is this a case of my poor mechanics being masked by equipment and now coming out with different stuff, or was that first shaft just fit right for me and should I try and find another. I imagine those shafts are quite different even if they are both labeled the same (stiff, regular, etc.).

Cobra has shaft specs on their site, or you could compare after a little Googling.

Thank you. After a quick search it would seem my new shaft is higher launching compared to the project x which was low launching. That explains why 11.5* was flying super high launching with the new shaft. But still I've tried almost every setting and while a 10.5 corrects the ballooning issue it doesn't help the side spin much Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Any difference in torque? Tip stiffness? These factor into loading and basically how the shaft performs in your swing. Considering all of that, there is no industry standard so even shafts with the same numbers could differ.

Either you'll adjust to it, or perhaps you'll want to trade back for the Project X shaft you had first.

Before anyone else feels compelled, the best answer is a driver fitting.

Two things about the driver fitting. 1) I understand it will help me optimize performance but for someone who is new and still tweaking their swing wouldn't it potentially be grown out of. 2) I wouldn't even know how to find one on long Island NY

You'll be tweaking your golf swing for as long as you play. It's part of the love/curse of the game. IMHO, as long as you can hit a ball somewhat consistently, you can be fitted to a club that's better for your game than others would be. I'm sure a fitter or instructor will weigh in on this thread sooner or later.

Google club fitting. NY must have a ton of locations.

Pete's Golf Shop in Mineola is a very famous and well-regarded clubfitter. The PGA Super Store is also a huge clubfitter that will do good by you. New York Golf Center is another one that's very popular and respected, but that's for the Manhattan location. I don't know the reputation of the one in Hicksville.

I agree on Pete's. Great staff, very dedicated and a fitting will take some time. Well worth it. Don't know if a box store such as PGASS will be that great with a fitting. Them and Golf Galaxy I frequent for non equipment: balls, gloves, clothing, etc I HAVE heard good experiences on fittings at Golfsmith, in Carle Place,though. Agreed on NYGC in NYC too.
