My eyes are not what they used to be and I've been prescribed with "reading" glasses and "long distance" glasses (I'm old). While the former a great for looking at the ball, the latter are a must to see where it went. (No I'm not suggesting that I'm a loooong hitter ) I can see the ball reasonably well without glasses, but I just like to be courteous in watching were the balls of the other players in the group, go. I've been playing without glasses at all recently, but yesterday I played with the long distance ones - and played really poorly - and couldn't understand why. I was blaming it on all the lost balls (6) in the mountains of fall leaves, and the shivers I had between swings. It was so cold for the first few holes.
Gladly, the season will be over soon - and I can go back to snooker where eyesight problems are not so severe. I hear that Cuba has excellent eye surgery prowess, maybe that's what I need

Of course, bifocals would be good (for both golf and snooker). Anyone use them, or been to Cuba?

I have never been to Cuba but I have tried bifocals. Personally, I can't stand them. If your eyesight problems are really bothering you that much I'd suggest getting Lasic eye surgery. It is fantastic.

I've also heard that this surgery makes night driving (driving a car not a golf club

) difficult. Is that your experience?

I don't wear glasses, but I've heard that bifocals are awful because when you look at the ball, you'll be looking through the border of both lenses.

Well I make glasses for a living so maybe my 2 cents will help someone out. I have found that if you are getting to the age that you need bifocals normally you are still young enough to be open to trying different things. You should consult with your eye doctor but I have found that many of my golfers tend to like a solution with contacts. You wear one in one eye for distance and one in the other eye for reading. Your mind will adjust for that change and you will domaintally change eyes for whatever the situation. I know this sounds kinda funny but I have heard of a good many people actually get their lasik eye surgery done like this and it works for them permantly.

Absolutely wrong. I have worn glasses or contacts for over forty years. A few years ago, I stopped wearing contacts. This past January, I bought my first pair of bifocals. I also bought a pair of non-bifocals in which to play golf, as I was so worried that I would not be able to play in the bifocals. I wore the bifocals almost all the time because my work requires me to read papers often. One day, I left work early in order to play golf. I forgot that I had on my bifocals until I was out on the course, and I didn't have my other glasses with me. To my surprise, I played with no problems. In fact, I prefer to play with the bifocals so that I don't have to adjust, even momentarily, to another pair of glasses. My bifocals have no lines and the change in perscription is gradual, so I never have the sensation I am looking through the border of the two perscriptions. Now, I can easily, if not always happily, read my scorecard without removing my glasses and bringing the card to my nose to get it into focus.

Same here.

I usually don't wear the shades b/c it fits a little weird with my cap. I've played once with glasses; it's not too bad, but I would rather wear contacts.

I used to play with glasses or prescription sunglasses according to weather - led to a couple of twilight disasters where I'd left my glasses in the car and had to play the last couple of holes blind :)
Had LASIK 3 weeks ago, it rocks, I can see better than ever and don't have the eyeglass frame right in my line of vision at address anymore.

as i'm a person with eyewear, here's my problem. living here in the Pacific NorthWest, rain is always an issue in the fall/winter. so, glasses are always wet, can't see a damn thing. it's like that don't drink and drive commercial where they plunk beer bottle after beer bottle in front of the camera's lens.

now, i hate wearing a hat, so that leaves me SOL. i do have a BagBoy umbrella setup but that doesn't help when i have to get ready to tee up or shoot a shot.what to do?

Yup, here in LA it's only rained once since I had LASIK, but the joy of not having drops on my glasses :) For the whole 20 years I wore specs I had a fetish for keeping them clean too (to the point people would come up and ask me if there were lenses in them), so rain always drove me nuts...

Around where I live it rains often in the fall and this past fall has been especially wet. I wear glasses but for me just pulling a baseball cap down tight has mostly been sufficient for covering my glasses from the rain. Sometimes when the wind is acting up or the rain is some kind of weird misty drizzle there is no way to protect the glasses but most of the time the combination of a baseball cap and umbrella has been good enough for me.
