I owned the Burner but I traded it in for a Sasquatch SUMO (good move, too), but it was a close thing between the Sasquatch and the Titleist 907-D2 (if that's the one you're referring too)

TM Burner

I see you have a TM Burner in your bag currently? Do you not like the performance of this club or was your poll just to see what people think? Either way I think all three are quality clubs. I think picking a good driver (I am currently researching this and going through this process, see my signature) is related to the following test in order of importance: Test 1) When you have the club in your hands do you immediately feel like you can tag it good? Test 2) How forgiving do you need the club to be (Example: TM Burner vs TM Burner TP)? Test 3) Launch angles, back spin, etc...which in my research is all related to club head degree (9.5 vs 10.5, etc..) and shaft depending on your swing. So if you are seriously considering one of these clubs, see which of the three passes test #1. Then test #2. Once you have decided on test #1 & #2 then test #3 is a matter of getting the club set up correctly for your swing. NOTE: If there is anyway you can demo these at a driving range that is one of the best ways to test #3. That is where I am in my process. I am very interested in a couple of differnet drivers (they all meet #1 & #2) and I am eagerly awaiting for a demo day from each manaufacturer at the local driving range so I can hit them. Personally I do not hit balls very well on an indoor launch monitor. I like to see the ball flight as it can tell you a lot...just my way!

I owned both the Burner and the 907. I think the 907 is a better feeling more solid driver.

yea i have a burner and its not that bad but i was really wondering how the other drivers compared and what other people would choose. i hit the a 907(not sure if its the d1 or 2), Sumo, Burner, Superquad, Insight 5000, ft-i/5, and one of the Cobra drivers but when i hit them i only hit 2 or 3 balls with each one. the ping rapture is the one that really interested in. ive heard alot of good things about it but ive never seen one to demo. the main thing that i would look for in the driver is really distance. i can hit it well and i used to hit around 280-300 but after switching to the burner its gone down about 20 yrds. (used to have an r7 but it had a reg. flex shaft so i had to get a new one. those distances are comparing a stiff flex r7 i borrowed until i got the burner)

Interesting that you lost 20 yds with the Burner. Which shaft do you have? Because I would think with the extra length and the right shaft you should be longer not shorter. Also were all the clubs you tried the same loft? The reason I ask is because that is one of the clubs I am thinking about. I play the Burner 3 wood (see signature) and love how forgiving it is and I hit it 230-250 depending on how my ball stiking is that day (remember I am only a 14 handicap). So I was hoping a Burner driver would put me out there 280-300 so I could eventually play the tips.

I know it's not one of the three you mentioned, but it is a Ping and when you said long and straight, I immediatly thought G10 driver.

i actually did think about the g10 but i never hear much about it, and most people talk more about the rapture. as far as the loft and shaft in my 2 drivers the loft was the same and it was also the same flex stock shaft. i have heard that the burner shaft was "whippy" and although ive never noticed it that could be it.

How interesting! I literally have spent the last month hitting every driver under the sun to determine which one I thought would be the best fit for me.

My final three came down to the Burner Draw, Titleist D1, and the Ping Rapture.

I initially had my heart set on the Ping, but I couldn't justify the extra $100 or so for a driver that seemed to perform (forgiveness and distance-wise) the same as drivers that were around $300.

In my opinion, the Titleist was the easiest to keep in the fairway.....which is ultimately what my main goal was. I'm not exceptionally long off of the tee (averaging around 250 or so on a good day), so the staight ball flight that the Titleist gave me was more important than launching it 20 yards deeper into the woods.

I have hit all three and have a Rapture in my bag. It is long and straight and very solid in feel. After this I liked the Titleist next and finally the Burner which I didn't care for much. Whichever you choose, get properly fitted for loft and shaft, and it will make a big difference to your purchase.

Umm, maybe this is a stupid question, but why don't you just get a stiff-flex R7 like the one you borrowed? The main reason why I say this is because the heads of most drivers today are getting pretty close to their design limit. So, I don't know if there's a Brand A driver head that's going to give you a 20 yard increase over Brand B. If there was, we'd all be playing it. And, given your handicap, there's even less of a chance that you'll find any substantial increase or decrease in distance because you strike the ball very well.

So, I think your current yardage decrease and subsequent increase will depend on the shaft that's on the club. Not all stiff shafts have the same characteristics. In fact, when you deal with proprietary shafts (one's that are made for a certain club manufacturer) they tend not to be the best made shafts consistency wise. It could say stiff, but play to a regular or visa versa. Or, they could have a lower kick point, etc. The decrease in distance you're experiencing could be contributed to the shaft that's on your Burner. It may be putting too much spin on the ball causing it to check up when it hits the fairway instead of releasing. Or, it could be launching too high. I would suggest that you bring in your current driver and test it on a launch monitor. Use that as a baseline, since you already know what it does on the golf course. Compare all the different models that you want to try to see where their numbers stack up. At that point, buy the one that gives you the most distance. Lastly, when you do your comparison, do it at the same location. The reason is because I've noticed variances in the launch monitors at different stores. When I was looking for a new driver, I was at one store checking out drivers. The monitor said that my clubhead speed averaged 108mph. I wanted to try a different loft and that store didn't have it. So, I drove down the block to another store that had it. When I got on their monitor, it said my clubhead speed averaged 90mph. I then went back to the first store. Again, I ended up with the same 108mph average as before. Hope this helps, DT

All very good points and questions...especially the last point (which I quoted) about launch monitors as this goes along with what I said in my earlier post as follows:

Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
