Some of the people I play with rave about having to have a 60 degree wedge in their bag. I carry one but personally can not hit it very well so I am thinking about taking it out of my bag. I was wondering whether or not you all like to use a 60?

i don't play a 60degree wedge but I'm looking into buying one soon.
i've heard it helps a lot with the short game but i never FULLY understood how...
all i know is that it's good for firm conditions when u need very little bounce
i've begun to notice that a lob wedge could help at times but i'm gonna wait it out til my game improves and i feel that i really need one

Yeah, once in a while I can just get it to stick on the green. But until I can learn to use it better I can achieve the same result with a 56 degree. I guess Ill just need to put some range time in with the 60.

I love my 60 degree wedge. It allows me to take a full swing in places where I would have to take less of a swing with my 56 degree wedge.

I carry a 60* but I use my 56* SW for almost everything.. The only time I use the 60* is in hard/shallow/wet sand.. Or really strange lies around the green where the bounce of the SW would make it hard.

I use my 60 nearly all the time from within 40 yards or so, unless I've got a good amount of green or can play a bump and run. I use it from bunkers more than even my sand wedge.

My lob wedge may be the single most important club in my bag (except my putter, of course).

Ditto above - My 60 degree LW gets used 100% from greenside sand (i NEVER use my 56 SW from sand),lob shots, trouble shots etc etc - i use my SW a little around the green and from between 50 - 90 yards out.

A 60 degree LW is not the sort of club you should just use for the sake of it though.Needs to be used in the right situation. Can be a dangerous club at times having to hit it so hard - from so close to the pin.If something goes wrong the results going to be kinda ugly...............

Nope. I have a 52* and a 56*. I had a 60 in my bag early last year, but took it out for a 2-iron. There were only a few times I've felt like I needed it out on the golf course.

One thing I have toyed with is switching my lofts of my other wedges slightly. I'd like to get my PW @ 50, GW @ 54 and SW @ 58. I think this will give me the range that I need. I think having 4 wedges (PW, GW, SW, LW) is too much. Granted most of your strokes are taken from 100 yards and in...

I have the 48 (PW), the 56 (SW), and the 60 (LW). I won't ever get a gap wedge, because I just lay open my pitching wedge and I have a nice little 52.

I had the same setup but found the 8 degree gap between PW and SW was too much. My yardages right now for my 3 wedges are:

PW (48): 130 GW (52): 115 SW (56): 100 I think I lineup of wedges slightly bent would produce a range of: PW (49): 125 GW (54): 105 SW (58): 90 This would be much more acceptable to me and help me with hitting lob shots around the green. Of course I haven't had a need to do this yet, but I may get a set of wedges at this loft and play with them for a bit to see what the results are.

I use to carry a LW. I use my 56 for everything under 100 now. Ive been thinking about putting it back in the bag and see about getting a little more spin on the ball around the greens.

I have a gap wedge too but i was thinking about getting rid of it for a 60 degree lob wedge. my current setup is P(47) Gap(51) Sand(56).
I don't use my gap so often, only when I can't afford to hit my P-wedge too far
I have decent distance control within like 60 yards but when it gets close to my full swing distance, i need the right club to nail it close.
Still, I think it's best to go with a lob wedge and work on P-wedge control

I use the 60 for 100 yards and in. A full shot is 100 and anything else is either open it up or do the Dave Pelz clock swing. I like to deloft it (put it on my right foot) and chop down hard on it to get that low two bounce and check shot from 60 and in.

I use the 60 in sand unless the sand is very "poofy" then I use a regular SW.

Other than my putter, my 60 is my most used club.

Ditto for me on that. I use my lob wedge from the sand, and anything 100 yards in. But the times it comes in most useful was on a shot like I had yesterday. Sixty yards out left of the green with several VERY tall oak trees between the green and my ball. The guys near the next tee box were taking bets that I couldn't hit it straight up enough to fly the trees. Well, I opened everything up and swung as hard as I could...I not only flew the trees right in front of me, I ended up with a 10-foot birdie putt (which I missed).

I'll also echo an earlier sentiment...if you take a full swing with the lob and you scold it...the results can be very, very ugly.

Sweet. Yes, you must trust what you are doing with a blob wedge. You must have the correct bounce for your swing. I can slip mine under the ball even on tight lies fairly well...

I just recently started using one, as in a few months ago. It took me a lot of experimenting to find out what I really need it for. I don't use it for chips, RARELY use it in the sand, I typically don't play a flop shot unless its last resort. So, I've found that my 60 is most usefull for 65-80 yard shots. I think I average about 8 feet with it.

I have a 58* and I love it! It is very usefull when you shortside yourself. It also allows me to take a full swing in spots I normally couldent.

I carry 4 wedges, PW, SW, 60*, and 64*. Adding the 64* five years ago has done more to help me lower my scores than any other club. I always use it around the greens, unless its a simple bump-and-run. I also use it from the fairway out to 85 yards. I would say its the best club in my bag.

    • I would recommend spending some time at the range and film your swing. You can post it in the Member Swings thread. At the range, you can figure out how to control the driver a bit more. We can offer some pointers once you post in the Member Swings section.
    • With the H4 or the watch, you tag the club before hitting by putting the tag next to the device. The tag is on the club butt end. After a round, you don’t really think about it too much. You just do it. I don’t know how far you are from @phillyk, but he may know an instructor in your area.
    • So the biggest issue right now is marrying the hands down with an athletic turn. I can get stuck not turning. Things get interesting from there.

    • Hi everybody!  I am new to the golf game. I have taken some lessons and got fitted for clubs a couple of months ago. I usually score between 110-120 for 18 holes.  I bought a Stealth driver last year and have been hitting consistently with it 210-230 yds on the simulator. But when I take it out on the course, every drive is a severe slice!  I played 18 holes yesterday at the club where I belong. I removed the driver from my bag and used the 5 iron to drive with. I hit straight 16 out of 18 drives, 180 - 200 yds. I used the 5i - putter for the rest of my game.  I ended the day with a 92. Question: Does it make sense for me to continue playing with irons only until I get further along in my game before I reintroduce the Driver and woods again? Or should I continue to struggle with the Driver and woods and shoot in the 100’s again? To me it’s a no brainer, but for those more advanced I am interested to get feedback.
