I finally "bit the bullet" and had a swing analysis and rebuilt my clubs and, after 3 rounds and a few hundred balls at the range, I can say it was clearly the right thing to do.

The first thing I noticed was that every iron felt the same weight and balance in my hands. When I swing the sand wedge it feels the same to me as the 7 iron, for example. Secondly my shot grouping is much tighter: miss-hits don't miss by as much as before and it is easier to hit shots on line. I picked up 4-5 yards with my irons and 15+ with my 3 wood and driver. In general, what was previously a great result with any club is now merely average.

I am having to recalibrate my pitching and chipping due to increased spin. The guy who did my clubs believes in higher swing weights to get increased compression and inertia with less effort. The way the clubs are balanced I don't really feel the additional weight consciously, but I see the result of it in the ball flight.

The better your swing is to begin with, the more positive the results will be right away. If you are a 10 handicap or better, you are cheating yourself out of lower scores (3-4 strokes a round) by not having this done. It is not going to the golf shop and hitting on a launch monitor and then deciding what flex shaft to buy. This is a competent analysis (with every club) of shot dispersal, swing speed, launch angle, spin and "smash factor" and then rebuilding the clubs from the head to the grip.

It was not cheap, but the cost was in line with what I would have spent to buy a good set of irons and a couple of fairway metals. After you endure the separation anxiety when handing your clubs over to someone for two weeks and then go through a few days of self-doubt and getting to know your "new clubs", you will regret having waited so long to have it done.

When you look for a club fitter, shop around, get testimonials. All club fitters are not equal. There are lots of people who can put clubs together, but you need someone who has the experience and good instincts required to do what is right for you .

Amen to this. I paid $250 to get fitted. The information I was given, from shafts, to irons, to types of balls, even my putter, was extremely beneficial. So is, knowing, that I'm playing with equipment that is specifically tailored to every single part of my game.

I recommend this to every person interested in playing golf as well as those already playing. I've noticed how many members play so frequently. Do you guys get your equipment checked often?

Yes and even before I was fitting or building. I don't like using my equipment as an excuse for poor play (I am human afterall and sometimes I like to think it's the arrow not the archer)
