I think I might have convinced the wife to get me a new set of clubs for Christmas. I would like to hear opinions on the Big Bertha Irons, or other irons that might fit me better.

I'm a fairly athletic guy, currently taking lessons and am around a 20-25 handicap - hoping to improve quickly with more consistent practice.

Thanks!

For some strange reason there's no icon for "Golden Bear" clubs. I wonder why?

I got back into golf this summer after hiatus. Started out with purchase of Big Bertha irons and X driver and 3 wood. I love the clubs and have no regrets at all. Good buy.

I am Mizuno forged iron guy, try all types of clubs and see what you like visually, what you hit well and of course what feel good when you hit them. Hit them in the simulator, driving range and if possible out on the course.

Good luck,

Well i havent hit these, but seen and played with people who own them. These are SUPER SUPER GAME IMPROVEMENT IRONS. If you are a 20 handicap, I wouldn't recommend these, maybe some X-20s if you are looking at callaway or Taylormade R7. I just think some game improvement, not super game improvement, is what you would need.

I buy all my golf equipment on e-bay. My birthday is comming up and I am looking to buy some golf gear of some kind.

Remember equipment is 10-15% of the game save some money for golf lessons, I wish I did.

If you are looking at Big Berthas, you might also consider the Ping G10 irons. I tried both (among others) and went with the G10s because they felt better balanced and slide through the turf like a hot knife through butter. Not to mention, I can hit these babies straight! I also liked the Taylor Made r7 draw irons, but obviously not as much as the Pings. Whatever you buy, make sure you get custom fit- it makes all the difference.

Have fun trying out a bunch of equipment!

Well when I first got my Big Bertha Fusions I was around a 25 handicap, and over the years I have got my handicap down to the single digits with these clubs, so they are definitely a set of clubs that you can grow with, the only down side is that they are alot of money

Woods- V-Steel 15*
Hybrid- Rescue Dual 16*

that's awesome to hear. I am new to Golf and just bought some Taylormade R7's and I really like them but I feared growing out of them when i got them. I'm hoping I can just change the grips and keep them til I get to my goal of a 10-12 handicap one day.

to the OP: i hear the big berthas are like others say, "SUPER game improvement." But, I can't exactly see where that is a bad thing.. ..hitting straight is better to me than all that draw/fade business anyday.. haha..

Hybrid: Callaway x series 24°

makes a great product and you cannot go wrong with Big Bertha irons...heck I think Rich Beem even uses the Big Bertha for his 3 & 4 iron on tour. Nothing like hitting it straight consistently...

However, I would strongly recommend that you go to some demo days (popular this time of the year because of the holidays) and hit the irons you like on the range and try others. Big difference from hitting them in a store on a simulator. The ball flight will tell you all you need to know when it comes to irons. I play MP-60's irons and recently went to a demo day to check out the Burner drivers...well to warm up I grabbed a R7 TP 6 iron and I tell you what...these are some sweeeeeet irons. If I wasn't soooooooooooo in love with my irons I would seriously consider these and I had never even thought about them prior to hitting them at the demo day. Do yourself a favor and take my advice...good luck!
