I know this isn't a problem for all of us, but unfortunately for the vast majority this is an annual occurrence. I know that I'll get a few opportunities to play in the winter here in Ohio, it will not be warm and sunny that's for sure. I like to spend time in the gym and keep my running routine, all be it hamster-like on a treadmill. There is a driving range with over head heaters about 20 minutes from my home. This early in the year the cold still feels cold so I use it more in January and on, when the cold doesn't seem as cold. There is also a golf dome nearby but the thought of hitting 90 yd shots with everything in the bag off mats isn't exactly thrilling either. Both the heaters and the dome are a vast improvement form the days of nothing but the garage, still I'm already wanting spring to return. So what are your plans to get that handicap a few shots lower next year?

Ahh, an Ohio winter yet again. Yay

I will work out a little harder in the winter than I do during the summer. Working on more stamina and conditioning that bulk. But a little more bulk than usuall. I can stand to gain a few pounds

I will putt, and putt some more, and putt some more, and putt some more. Seeing as this is the main thing that is holding me back and the easiest to practice during the winter.

I am planning and 95% sure I will be going to Columbia, SC for a week of 36 holes a day golf at the end of March, like you said there is always that day or two during the winter that you can get out or at least get to a range and hit some balls too.

During this winter i will be focusing on a lot of Strength and flexibility exercises and also a number of mental drills to help get me in a positive mind frame for the next season.

I am going to try and play 2 times a week, just playing 18 holes each time so that i don't 'lose it' and start shooting 80's next summer.

I will also be visiting the range once/twice a week to work on my long game, chipping and putting will be worked on in the living room.

I work on putting im my hallway the carpet in my living room does not lend itself to putting. If I ever get to play Augusta in the spring I will not have to worry about the speed of their greens, they can't be any faster than the hardwood floor in my hallway.

I usually place the bowl of guacamole farther to the left. That way when I take a chip with my right hand I have to twist my upper body farther in the recliner to reach the dip. By Spring thaw I'll be flexible as an 8 year old Chinese circus girl.

And diligent training with Bud Long Necks helps promote proper wrist cock, don't forget....

Heh...mine is to keep playing during the winter. I just put layers on.

You know, I think I shoot better when I can't swing as hard when I've got 3 layers on, because I don't duck hook a ball 300 yards into the woods then...

Today, after digging out once again after last night's snow storm, I reminded myself that in less than three weeks I'll be in Arizona for the holidays and going golf crazy (equipment fitting, selection, practice, and an actual round or two.)

Putting on anything but grass really messes with my speed. What's the point of getting a line and blowing it past 20 feet or leaving it short 20?

I live in NE Arkansas and we rarely get any snow in Winter anymore (Global Warming). However, we do occassionally get ice storms (great for roll on).

Most courses cover their greens over most of the winter, but now use roll-on/roll-off covers instead of straw so that on pretty, warm days - say any clear days with highs over 50, the covers can be rolled off. Just about everyone at my CC who plays golf has their own cart and 90% have enclosures for cold weather (some have heaters and a few have AC too).

I expect to be able to play 2-3 rounds a month straight through winter.

Plus my house has a 6.3 acre mowed lawn, so I can practice most of my shots in my own yard without the 4 mile drive to the club (have to remember to bring the clubs home though). Half the time I go to play I find my shed and cart keys have been left in another vehicle, and a few times I have made the return trip twice to fetch my golf shoes.

Just keep playing... low 60's today.

Of course, I get the oppressive humidity in the summer to make me pay for it. Yin-Yang... unless you live in San Diego

I've got just enough space in my apartment to do a full swing with everything but my driver, so I do a lot of work on muscle memory, especially now that it's dark when I get out of work and can't go to the range. I don't think it's been too cold on the weekends either, but I've been busy lately. I even made it to a Par-3 course in Jersey over Thanksgiving weekend. Got my first birdie, 15 yard chip-in!

Plans to keep my game sharp (for me, slightly better than miserable)?

Keep playing. Gotta love Hawaii! Except that the last week and a half has been miserable. Portions of the island are without power from the winds last night. Fortunately, it wasn't too bad where I'm at.

Once the storm moves through, it'll clear back up to the 70's and 80's with a breeze coming down off the mountains... aaahhhhhh... I'll have to slide out of work a day or to and catch back up.

I've actaully been working on this problem for the last few weekends. My 11 year old son really came a long way this past summer and I didn't want him to go months without getting in some full swings so the first thing I've done was put up a net in our basement. He and his clubs are still short enough so he can practice full swings without hitting the ceiling. Unfortunately for me I can only hit chips and half wedges or I'll hit the rafters,,lol! I also have a putting station and chipping net baskets set up for us to play and practice with throughout the cold Upstate NY winter.

In addition to this we also have a sports dome near by that offers a indoor golf range 5 days a week. We also have a golf simulator sports bar that is ok but IMO nothing like real golf.

None of these options are perfect but they do make a huge difference when we tee it up for real the first week of April here!
