Decided to take a closer look at my wrists at the top. Been toying around with the idea of getting more of a wrist cock at the top.

Also interested in my hip action to start my downswing. Sometimes it feels as though I sway laterally instead of a pure turn of the hip.

Was about to take a look but photo bucket are currently doing maintenance work.

However on your second point, every swing must in theory start with a lateral bump of the hips towards the target, I would like to see every ones swing start with a lateral movement left of the body until the weights on the inside on the left heel (for right handed golfers) and then rotate through the ball as fast as they can, this allows the golfer to hit the ball using all his potential power as he is using all his body to create club head speed.

Will look at the videos tonight.

Ben: That's a pretty strong grip you have there. Is that the way you have always done or did you start out fighting a cut/slice and that setup became natural to you?

Fiji, this is going to sound awfully strange, but that is as weak as I can get my left hand. I subscribe to Hogan's methods of the swing, grip, stance, etc. In putting the butt of the club under the palm of my left hand I can't get my left hand/wrist to do anything else. I don't know if there is something off with my wrist, but it just goes like that. No matter how straight (and weak) I try to make it, that's just the way my wrist is. I've never broken my hand or wrist either.

Furthermore, my ballflight is quite opposite of what you think. As a kid I'd always had a nice slight draw. In my old age I've come to realize that the fade is a much more reliable shot, again one of Hogan's (and many other pro's) theories. These days I can't hit a draw to save my life. No matter what I do, or how hard I try. A slight draw is no longer in my shot arsenal?!

I do know exactly where your theory comes from, I just got a wierd left wrist?!

You have an athletic stance and great flexibility with your arms coming across your chest. If you're worried about getting more lag, since your first move down from the top is to drop your arms, you actually increase the lag. So, there's not too much left to gain.

The way you have your left hand turned around the club is a bit interesting (you barely have any forward press), but at +2.6, you obviously seem to make it work for you.

It appears to me that you have built a very effective stack and tilt swing.

Have fun,
jg

Yeah, my left wrist/hand is nuts! Check out what I wrote to fiji up there. And yes, I toy around with a forward press, but it just doesn't feel right to me.

Ben, that is kinda interesting. I used to play a draw as well and then all of a sudden one day, it was gone. I was hitting the ball straight or with a slight cut. That's pretty much all I play now as well. Every now and then I will get an 8 iron to turn over to the left, but that's about it.

BTW, my grip is slightly strong, but not much.

There are a few things that i could say about your swing, however at your level I would suggest getting advice from a PGA pro, some people will just tell you too keep your head down

AHH HAA! dude i shit you not i have that exact same grip, i started by fighting a slice and now it is so comfortable i cant put my hand any weaker. it feels really good to me and i am striking the ball better than ever with that grip. sorry to seem so excited but everyone and their mother have told me that grip is so wrong(including my pro) but its nice to see someone at your level doing the same thing i do.

Not to get off topic but I do the same thing with my left wrist, sorry no visual evidence. If I put it any other way I shank it. I went to the range once and tried to fix it and hit 40 straight shanks before I said Eff it why mess with it.

Anyways, very nice swing. I could be way off, but at the very top of your swing the first split second of the downswing reminds me of Ernie for some reason.

Fiji, ...

It totally makes sense to me that you hit a fade. It looks like to me you're loading up over your left leg, bringing the club in steeply from the inside, and hammering it. If you maintained your flex in your right leg, you could find that draw again (which could quickly becoming a hook).

This, to me, is a perfect example of a really effective and well executed stack and tilt as done by the pros. Not the exaggerated stack and tilt shown in the instructional photos.
