Yay for me. Nay for my wallet...

Little bit of background about me:
I'm high hadicaper haven't played many full courses nor played at all recently but taking lessons and working on my swing.

I've been eye Nickent's 3DX Pro irons for quite a while becuz of their look, feel and price.
Big Nickent Fan!!
But I decided to try other irons and get fitted before I can fully commit to it.
This trying thing went on for weeks.
As I finally decided and went to the store get fitted for the Nickent this morning, the sale rep (my friend) wanted me to try callaway X20 and X20 Tour.
I was all anti-callaway since I know about golf equipments.

The simulator disagreed with me.
I was carring 170+ yard with good ball flight with the 6 iron.
I've been struggling with hitting my 6 irons 150y on a regular basis.

I was hitting X20 Tour way better than all other game improvement irons, even better than X20.
Tried Adams Ideal Pro and Idea A3.
I hit a lot better with the Idea Pro.
I had a hard time launching with game improvement Irons.
And Somehow I do a lot better with player's irons.
Go figure!!

I had a hard time convincing myself to like the look of X20 Tour, and I went on to try anything I can think of.
Nothing compares to it.

Ater 2 hours, I gave in and ordered a set.
My friend gave me a 5% discount but still $900 gone!
(shrug) what can I say?

I know the feeling, just ordered a set of Mizuno MX-950s & a Callaway Big Bertha 460 after a 2.5 hour fitting session. Got a geat deal on a used Mizuno MP-R 58* wedge today at PGA SS , need the 52* now as a gap wedge. Now to sell my set of Adams tech os

I think making a big purchase is a remedy for the GEAS you speak of (at least a temporary remedy). I bought my irons about a month ago and haven't wanted to aquire any golf equipment since then. I wonder how long this will last...

In my C-130 bag:

Driver: G10 10.5*
3 Wood: Burner
Irons: G10 steel AWT shafts, silver dot, +1" (3-SW)Wedge: cg12 58*Putters: Squareback 2, California Coronado Low score (18 holes): 90Low score (9 holes): 42

I'd like to say no way, but maybe I'm just in denial.

Why couldn't I hit better with cheaper brands? It had to be the tour version and the PX flighted shafts... If you look at my signature, you can clearly see that I don't have an adequate set. Everything was a knock-off bought from China. Eventually, I'll replace all the knock-off stuff. And THAT'S IT until I get down to single digit. I have no money to buy anything for at least another month.

AHHH, that is when GEAS becomes even stronger.....no money. I see visits to Ebay and the used club barrel at an Edwin Watts. It's ok. The first step to recovery is to admit you have it. Like....Hi, I am Gapwedge. I have GEAS.

Thanks for the observation Scrambles. At age 54 and not playing near as much as I used to the MP32's became a liability on the course from mis-hits and lost distance as a result. The switch to Ping i5's should be a game improvement for me. I finally got a chance to hit the G5 driver I recently bought and really like it as well. But what is really surprising to me is the Ping MB wedges. I have played Cleveland TA for years, but there is a wow factor with these MB's. Now, if I can find more time to play.

Yeah, I would like to get my hands on the MB wedges or the spin milled vokey's. Trying not to just spend money on more equipment for something to do...the G5 with the Aldila is no joke, great Driver.

I hit the G10 with the stock Ping shaft stiff this weekend...whoa...face of the club seemed really hot. I love my i-5's too..great look and good balance of forgiveness and playability. Just thought your equipment upgrades were nice choices.

There are a lot of golf widows out there for sure...but I steer away from calling it golf adultry which I don't think you meant that in a negative way by any means.

Christmas time does lend itself to saying Merry Christmas to ourselves. Good luck with the Adams hybrid.

Yes, the i5's definitely are workable. I do like the line of the i10's, but got a great deal on the i5's so these are definitely playable as were my Eye 2+'s years back.

ahh now here's what I'm talking about!! I wouldn't trade my Eye 2's in for any other irons out there. I'm only 14 and when my golf teacher (friends dad) said these are the best irons out there. I went home and did some research and I saw that they were twice as old as me and I thought he was kidding. I got a set and WOW they are amazing. I also got the whole set in perfect condition for 150 off of ebay! thats a great deal. If only the wedges weren't so expensive...

o well I like my tours too.

driver - TM r7 425 10.5* Purple Ice Stiff
3 wood - TM r7 TP 15* reg. flex fij. vista pro
7 wood - Cally Big Bertha 21* proforce stiff
4 hybrid - TM Mid 22* reg. ultralight fij.5 hybrid - Nickent 3dx Ironwood 26* fij. banzia stiff irons - Ping eye 2+ 4, 6-pw kt-m stiff wedges - Ping tour 54*...

Congrats on being 14 and having a love for the game. Good for you. The Ping Eye 2's in my opinion are classic. My son got mine and played for years with them before his entire set was stolen. He is 27 now and they are still his favorites even though he is playing with the Mizuno MP32's now. I am thinking of getting another set just to keep in my room on display since they were my first set of cavity backs. I grew up playing with blades since that was all that was made back then. At age 10 I grew up with the Power Bilt Scotch Blade irons. I still have those. Got them in 1965.

Great set of Sticks and shafts!

Simulators are BS! If the guy wasn't PCS Certified, then you didn't go through a quality fitting. It sure takes longer than a couple hours . Not to rain on your parade.

Congrats!
