On the live leaderboard at the PGA TOUR website, they have a running stats graphic showing the leader and field average in several different categories. At the beginning of the second round at the Mercedes-Benz, Jim Furyk is nearly lapping everybody in, of all things, driving distance. (Furyk = 280; Field Avg = 254)

Is that the first time this has ever happened?!

Furyk's average is nearly to his identical season average from 2007, which put him in something like 170th! What I would give to be that consistent off the tee...

Not to mention 93% accuracy yesterday with that distance. This has to be a first. But maybe it's because he's hitting driver and others aren't?

What I would give to have his full game, too!

But he is still +1 so does bombing it by everyone help at this tournament?

Got to be that.

Worth noting: I'm

guessing on that he was hitting driver and the others weren't. I'm just trying to explain it.

Those are the current 2008 stats I believe. Not many of the top ranked pros are playing in the Benz. It doesn't surprise me

I was pulling for Stricker. He is such a low ego guy with a chill demeanor.

Yeah, I pulled for him too. He's on both my fantasy teams, too. Man, I had to put down my work during the playoff to hear how it would turn out.

I was there, but Jim Furyk was getting a lot of good bounces, im not saying it was bad, he's my favorite player but he was. But in the final round he couldn't put anything together. Stephen Ames was atleast 10 yards farther off the tee everytime.

On 16 during the final round, when he was about to address his putt from off the fringe the ball moved, they called a rules official but he putted before the official got there, and the official concluded that there was no infraction (just thought that might not have been on the broadcast, and it was interesting because of what happened to Boo Weekly in the 2nd round). Then I went to the green exit for the players and told him "nice par," the he said "thanks I appreciate it" and he started to walk away, then turned back around and said "here you've been here all day," and tossed me his ball. I can now say that I have a golf ball used by my favorite play...Jim Furyk

Here's what I play:
