Take a lesson, at least one lesson. Before you worry about the clubs or the ball you use.

I have excellent body control. I was a two sport collegiate athlete and I have been in 3 martial arts. I have to tell you, my golf swing was nothing like my mind was telling me. Granted, I'm a mid to low 90's shooter and some of my faults weren't that extreme, but little adjustments make a big difference in this game.

I was bringing my club back too far, cocking my wrist early, swinging too close to my body, and transferring way to much weight to my back foot.

I bet the pro I worked with today dropped 10 strokes off my score in 45 minutes. The contact and trajectory consistency I gained from him was incredible for such a short amount of time.

I would highly recommend it to anybody even considering it. I plan on going back once per month until for at least the next 4 or 5 months.

I completely agree. Pros know what to look for and common causes for less than optimal ball flights. Everyone's swings are different because no two people have the exact same build. A good swing coach will take a Jim Furyk-looking swing, concentrate on the essence of the swing and discard the less important bits and make players like Jim Furyk a tour caliber player.

If you know what to look for in your own swing, I'd say invest in a camcorder with a slo-mo frame by frame playback function. Golf lessons with any worthwhile pro will run right around $45/half hour - the camcorder will soon pay for itself.
