I was watching the Golf Channel and Brandel Chamblee made a comment saying Tiger would have to drive it better if he wants to win the US Open(as well as the other 3). I understand Tiger is stubborn and rarely makes a drastic club change. Does anyone agree with me in saying that Tiger COULD benefit from a square driver(as long as he plays it straight) to win the Grand Slam? He's gonna have to keep it out of the rough because of how thick it is going to be and NOT win on pure distance, but accuracy.

he's a tiger, he likes it in the jungle

i've read in several interviews that Tiger has said he's tried it out (sq driver) and he hits it too straight. A good complaint for an amater and most pro's!

I guess he likes to work the ball...INTO THE ROUGH!

This week in Dubai he hit 22 out of 56 fairways. I believe he hit the 5 wood a lot and the 3 wood the odd time. I didn't see him miss a fairway with a fairway wood. I reckon he was about 25% fairways hit with his driver.

Do you think he's too proud to change a driver in case it doesnt work? Or if it does work? He'd win a lot of tournaments with a fairway woods to be true!

In my opinion, he doesnt need to switch to the square. There is more MOI in the new round Nike Driver compared to the one he is currently hitting. I think he would benefit the most form that because he would still be able to work the ball, yet add a little more forgiveness.

tiger is the best golfer going around atm. if he even plays half well like he did at dubai(except third round i think which was even par round) then he will win every major this year in my opinion. driver changing is not the answer. he just needs his 2007 consistentcy back into his game

I believe Tiger would greatly benefit from a square driver. Tiger did say that in order to use one, he would have to alter his swing too much. This, I don't understand. Maybe it's just an excuse not to use one. Maybe because he's so competitive, he refuses to accept that he, the number one ranked golfer in the world, has a huge weak spot.

Tiger could and might play the 3 wood or 2 iron stinger when it comes time for the 4 majors. Gee I don't know 295 to 310 down the middle with his distance control and putting ability. I take that!!!! bwgolfer

Tiger with square driver? It's like Tiger is supposed to drive a Volvo because it's much safer car? Heck no, he'll still going to drive his Ferrari.

I don't see it happening and I agree that he needs the ability to shape his shots, especially at Augusta, to be pin seeking on the next shot. He is in a driving rut and you all know he will get it worked out. I do agree with the consensus that he will not get away with driving it like that at the US Open. The rough will be way too punishing to post a decent number if you have to hack it out too many times.

I like the progress we have made in this forum. .
But telling Tiger to switch his driver is probably a little deep for us to discuss. Seriously, I think he knows his swing more than all of us combined. He'll probably beat us all by at least 5 strokes on any course if he played our clubs and we played his. (I know he will beat me by 15 or more.)

At least 5 strokes?! Tiger would bury us any time at any course.

And the equipment doesn't make the golfer. Tiger could use a tin can attached to a stick and still kick butt.

I said 5 only because there are a few plus, scratch or near scratch in the forum. He may need only two or three of our own clubs to beat most of us.

Tiger is miles beyond any scratch or better player on here to be fair, he is an estimated +8 on tour courses (I.E. Long and hard) would not like to know his handicap on local club courses :(

They said that the distance between Tiger and #2 Phil was greater than the distance from #2 to # 1000. He is light years beyond us. He would clean most of our clocks with three clubs, one being his putter. Now put that on tv. Tiger versus the amatuers using a seven, wedge and putter in a straight up match. That would be worth watching!

this is an excellent question, as tiger can be a little wild off the tee but being that he makes such great recoveries with his strength and imagination, why switch

he might even be hitting in the rough so he doesn't fall asleep out there as he really seems to rise to the occasion of being in what mortal professional golfers consider trouble, makes his rounds more amazing to watch

I think Tiger is fine with this driver. Remember, golf is a game of recovery. For great players, being in trouble is an inconvenience, not an end all.

As for better driving, I remember at the Sony Open, Chad Campbell was 14 for 14 on Fairways, 18 for 18 in GIR. However, he could not putt.

Tiger will be fine come the Majors. He'll play to what the course gives him. If this means more loft on his shots, trying to minimize run on his drives, etc, he'll do so. It won't guarantee victory but it will make the possibility of winning, greater.

The guy spends more time on the range than anyone. More often than not there would be a lot of new equipment thrown at him for trial.

He would have hit a tonne of balls with the new Square head. Im sure if he thought it would help, he would. i still can't believe the guy hits that amount of fairways and still has the game to win as much as he does. amazing.

Add that into 4 rounds of play. I'm sure most of us (definitely me) will miss the cut on the 2nd day.
