Hello, new member here from beautiful BC. I've only been golfing 6 years but like many I am totally obsessed with the game. I carry a 23 cap and struggle to break 90...but my claim to fame is a hole in one my first year. Scuffed the ball all around the course but lucked out with a 120 yard 7 iron from an elevated tee in the pouring rain. My buddy was showing me the ropes..he's been golfing 35 years and never had a sniff. Just goes to show how crazy this game is.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing some of your stories, tips, and club reviews.

Welcome.

A fellow British Columbian here; I'm in Nanaimo. Hopefully we get the cool weather behind us, though looks like nothing but rain for the next while. I was at the range today at least.

Depends, of course, on the area you visit. The list below is by no means comprehensive, but it will get you started. I've played them and they're all must-plays IMO, but I've bolded my favourites.

Okanagon near Kelowna: The Bear, Gallagar's Canyon, Predator Ridge South Okanagon: Fairview Mtn Shuswap Lakes area: Salmon Arm , Hyde Mtn Kamloops: Rivershore, Dunes Whistler: Big Sky, Nickalaus North Lower Mainland (Vancouver area): Redwoods, Northlands , Fraserview Harrison Springs: Sandpiper Victoria (Vanc Island): Olympic View, The Bear Keep in touch...any other info I can help you with let me know

Welcome.

Hello Nanaimo

Yeah, it's been a brutal winter range-wise. Normally I'm hitting balls right thru but not this year. Tomorrow's the day though I see you're a Ping man. I bought Rapture irons including wedges last year and love 'em! Especially the shafts. Like my G5 driver as well but will test-drive the G10 soon. My Rapture 3 wood... can't hit it worth a darn. keep it in the short stuff, GoGolfing

Yes, the west coast winter blues. I did get out for a dry nine holes this afternoon and it was great to do. I am a Ping guy, and am really enjoying my new i10's and Tour W Wedges. What course do you play most often? Member anywhere? Good to have another 'left coaster' in the forum; not to many that I've come across. There was a crazy guy from Victoria, but he's since been banned from the forum (not joking).

The courses I play most often nearby are: Fort Langley, Redwoods, Belmont, Sandpiper, Homestead (Lyndon, WA). Don't belong to a club as I don't want to get tied down ...like to roam about and discover new courses. I head out on two different golf 'tours' each summer for a three day trip: one we head down into WA state, the other somwhere new each year. This year we're doin' Whistler.

How about you? Never played Nanaimo area, just Victoria e.g. The Bear, Olympic, Arbutus, I hear there's some beauties over your way. My group was thinking of coming over in a year or two (to Nanaimo). BTW, if you ever get over my way let me know -- if you don't know your way around, I'll make sure you're looked after..

I've heard great things about Redwoods, but haven't played much over there. A friend of mine is the head pro at Meadow Gardens and may get over there and play it with him sometime. I play out of Nanaimo Golf Club; it's a nice, well maintained track with some nice views of Georgia Strait. There are quite a few nice courses around here. Morningstar is nice and hosted the BC Am. last year, Fairwinds in Nanoose is nice; it is not overly long but tight. Up island, there are Storey Creek and Crown Isle which are also very nice tracks. Nothing too expensive either. There is also a Greg Norman track that is supposed to open up later this year in Maple Bay outside Duncan, and Nicklaus is building a new one in Tofino that he has referred to as Pebble Beach North in terms of the property, so we're getting better and better in terms of quality of courses.

Yeah, Redwoods is one of my favourite courses for sure. BTW I have a G5 driver but like most of us I'm constantly in 'the search'. How do you like the Rapture?

I really like my Rapture. I got fitted for it on a launch monitor and have had it since April of last year. I had a G2 before that. The Rapture is longer and has a really nice ball flight. It was a bit pricey full retail but I have a pro I buy all my clubs from that gives me really good deals, so it wasn't too bad. I've heard great things about the G10 too.
