I pretty much concur. Although I did predict a European victory last week, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of play by both sides this past weekend. I disagree with all those doubting Thomases that the Presidents Cup is a wannabe Ryder Cup. When you truly look at both events, they both offer the same great element; competition amongst the cream of the crop. Of course it?d be great if we saw Americans, Europeans and Internationals in one magnificent event every year, but given what we have, it still makes for great golf. By the way, did I mention that Chris DiMarco is my new hero?

Finally the US won a team competition. I hope now that Chris DiMarco gets the recognition he deserves. He will win a mayor in 2007.

The overall quality of the play was very good, and the final two matches were AMAZING. It's rare to see two singles matches, which will decide the event, where the players are so incredibly on. I'll now watch that Saturday and Sunday morning Euro tour more closely to get some more Angel Cabrera action. Particularly amazing was how ridiculously long Stuart Appleby has gotten. It was disappointing for Vijay to lose to Fred Couples, but remember, it's still Fred Couples. He owns at these formats.

Check this out:

2-4/3 Player Lifts Ball in Mistaken Belief That Next Stroke Conceded

Q. In a match between A and B, B made a statement which A interpreted to mean that his (A's) next stroke was conceded. Accordingly, A lifted his ball. B then said that he had not conceded A's next stroke. What is the ruling?

A. If B's statement could reasonably have led A to think his next stroke had been conceded, in equity (Rule 1-4) A should replace his ball as near as possible to where it lay, without penalty.
Otherwise, A would incur a penalty stroke for lifting his ball without marking its position (Rule 20-1) and he must replace his ball as near as possible to where it lay.

Clearly, Davis Love could have heard the "good" in "Good shot, Stewie" as "good" and picked up the ball. Immelman was never right that it was a loss of hole.

Still, kind of dumb of Davis to pick it up without being certain.
