  1. So one key swing thought (because that's all my brain can handle) is to make sure my back faces the target at the top before beginning the downswing
  2. Just played a great track in CT - Black Hall (Old Lyme) with a strong golfer (3 hcp) and a couple other buddies (I am a 12 index). The 3 hcp kept it down the middle and long - I found myself pressing and struggled with some pulls and hooks throughout the round. My question is how do you keep your tempo (especially at the transition) when faced with pressure situations?
  3. I think that kind of graphic showing how much the pros fade/draw/big hook/big slice is very cool. Anyone else think so too? Why don't they show that kind of stuff on all the PGA Tour/LPGA/Champions Tour events?
  4. As an amateur who is trying to stop lifting up and changing my spine angle during the backswing, then dipping down during the downswing (resulting in either too steep an angle of attack or hitting irons fat occasionally), I am really trying hard to mimic Dustin Johnson's relative spine angle positions. Man he hits the ball a ton without any apparent effort! While I appreciate the comments above, I do not understand what is meant by having lag at impact. I thought the proper position at impact was to have a straight line from the left shoulder through the clubhead at and immediately past impact to make sure you are achieving maximum speed through the ball. If he still had lag at impact, wouldn't that mean that he has not yet fully extended his arms and released the clubhead yet?
  5. Here are some sequential DTL views from a YouTube video of DJ by the SF Golf Performance Center. I superimposed circles (for head position) and lines (for spine angle) over each of the frames to show relative positions. It looks like DJ drops his head and squats down during the backswing and transition, but I can't detect any "jumping" up since DJ's head position stays below address (and below where it was at the top of his backswing [yellow circle]) through impact. Dj's left shoulder moves up at impact, while his heads stays down - how can an amateur copy this move?
  6. DJ had it hen let it slip away! So much talent, but couldn't close...
  7. Thanks for the link - great stuff. So many things going on in the golf swing and in the mind - no wonder this is a great game!
  8. Just watched some BizHub slo-mo videos of Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Ricky Fowler - noted that they each dip their heads down (i.e., tilting their spine angles toward the ball) during the backswing, contrary to the old mantra of keeping your head still. I was wondering what they are doing in the downswing to compensate for the lowered spine angle to prevent hitting the ball fat - clearing the hips and rotating their left shoulders up through impact?
  9. Hopefully he is not a flash in the pan, or maybe he was flashed too many times with natalie gulbis' cans...
  10. Why is he tanking this year (last 6 rounds in the 70s) after a good start this year?
  11. I get that you have to know whether you consistently hit left of center/right of center/high/low etc. Will have to remember to do that next time to see where my ball strike pattern is. Using tape is great - I heard about and have used an even cheaper way to see where on the clubface I hit the ball - I use a dry erase marker and put a dot on the back of the ball. The dry erase mark leaves a temporary imprint on the clubface and is easy to wipe off after each shot.
  12. A big part of hitting the ball far is to hit it on the center of the clubface. Studies have shown that missing the center of the clubface by even just 1/2 inch can result in the loss of 5% of your center face hit distance, which for a 100 mph swing speed would result in a loss of 12 yards in distance for a driver. What are some of the best drills to improve hitting the ball on the center of the clubface?
