  2. It's a good program. Many people need to be lifting weights instead of standing on balance balls and other "core" crap. Squats will make you strong. Squats may be hard already but you'll still be able to add 5# every workout for a while. Think about micro weights for the press once you stall. Record yourself and post the videos on a good lifting forum to get form advice. Seriously. How tall and how much do you weigh? Unless you are looking to lose weight you'll probably want to eat a 500 calorie surplus. Get lots of sleep and eat tons of protein. I haven't lifted for months but I'll be getting my cage back together in a few days and looking forward to squating again.
  3. It's perfectly fair from the same tees. If his friends happiness really depends on winning he should get friends that practice golf and or are more emotionally stable. His friends should care about his happiness too. If there is no money on the line I don't see why they care.
  4. I let my buddies take any liberty they want. I'll write down whatever score they tell me. I even encourage some of the worst guys to do whatever they have fun with. I'm pretty strict myself so that I can gauge my progress. I wouldn't have much fun if I'm taking free drops. I'm competing with myself and happy to have good company.
  5. um...yeah. The point is that not just is it a subjective decision that the grip is the perfect length but what about different sized grips. We could just carry a tape measure and do a different length. The question is....what length is right?
  6. I think the percentage of misses is higher than you might expect totally because they expect it to be so easy. If everyone steps up to the ball and takes it seriously they'll hardly ever miss. The real question imo is why don't you hit it in? Why not increase it to 16 inches? Why not increase 16 to 17 inches? on and on and on. avoiding a continuous spectrum of subjectivity is necessary for good rules. I say put the ball inside the cup. It doesn't bother me what anyone else does though. One guy I play with tells people to "pick it up" when they are 4 feet away sometimes.
  7. I like the advice about putting out. If you take your scoring seriously and honestly you can start to address your weaknesses and make improvements. You can't fix a problem that you always ignore.
  8. Practice at the range, practice putting/chipping once a week. Video review my swing from the range. Play twice a week. Shoot low 80s I've gotten a ton of help from this site this year and turned my game around very fast after many years of bad habits. Thanks to everyone here.
  9. Break 90. Finish season with 20 handicap or better. Less mishits Less 3 putts Less penalty strokes
  10. Played 9 monday. Didn't make good contact. I was too focused on keeping my head still but not really knowing how it should feel. Played 9 Tuesday and stopped focusing on my head. Made sure I got weight forward. Made better contact. I don't think I'll try to make changes on the course. I'll go to range on weekends and maybe one other day each week to work on my swing then just try to reinforce those changes on the course. Got the stack and tilt DVDs. Recorded myself in the back yard. Not worth posting. I'm still bringing club back poorly (pointing towards right of target at top of backswing) so I'm trying to get the feel in my hands/wrists (and not even swing back that far). Not sure that I'm tilting correctly. It feels pretty awkward so far. I plan to go to the range tomorrow so I can hit some balls. I will post another video. I like S&T; so far just because they explain why they do everything. I play table tennis so I have a good grasp of spinning the ball but was always confused because I always read "swing path = ball path, face = spin" but didn't really question it. I'm happy to know I did actually know what was going on and being able to make decisions for myself on the course will be huge (I expect).
  11. Read 'the biggest secret? SLIDE Your Hips' thread recently and went to the range today. I've got lots more reading to do but would appreciate advice. Thanks for any comments. My thoughts are that I need to work on my back swing. It seems like I slide back and move my head too much.
