  1. Fersman, I agree. My chipping is weak. I'm actually pretty solid with my putter, my speed today and lines were spot on. If I can't take a full swing on my approach shots I'm also pretty weak in that aspect. If I could sure those things up I could essentially cut 5 strokes or so off my rounds.
  2. Shot a 43 today, best 9 I've played. This is the first two months of playing golf seriously in my life so I am very pleased. It wasnt easy I made a lot of 10 foot putts and one was from the fringe (lucky) but hey I'll take that. My problem areas are my pitch shots within 75 yards and chipping. Other than that, I think my game is looking pretty good!
  3. A pro doesn't have the time to go through all the minor details and things. Many expect that you have the basic mechanics down. This is why I said I would stop the lessons for now.
  4. How is your ball flight? Mine stays low, comparable to a line drive in baseball. Probably why I get such nice rolls.
  5. Yes, I do think that is what is happening for the most part. When you try to scoop the ball it is because you are compensating for a faulty swing sequence. Yours is faulty because of your verticality and the lack of hip rotation, this makes you feel the need to scoop the ball to get contact. I had the same problem as you, I was playing golf decently with bad technique, once I tried to learn the proper way to play, my game went to hell. Im very happy that I did make the change though because now my game is better than ever. One thing you need to also work on is your posture, you seem to be very vertical from set up, move back from the ball because you look very close to it. Bend more at the hips and less at the knees. Here is a simple hip rotation drill, do it in front of a mirror and just got the feel of it before you hit a ball. Start simple, put a ball on the ground and move away from it some, then bend at the hips and less at the knees. And use this drill over a ball and in front of a mirror. Focus on coming through and not up. Hope it helps!
  6. And just to add, it is not 250 in the air. I get probably 200-215 in the air and then a lot of roll when the course is in good playing shape.
  7. I was wondering how high everyone tees up the ball on their drive. I tee my ball very low, I feel like I hit it more consistently than when it's teed up high and much straighter. What are the effects of teeing the ball lower? Am I losing distance? I hit my driver 250 plus on average when it is teed low. Thanks!
  8. Peaco, one thing that helps me get some extra distance is opening the left foot a bit. When your front foot is square it limits the ammount of turn you can get and you already have a good ammount so if you go to the range try opening it a few degrees and see if that helps you get through the ball with more distance.
  9. I agree with Boston, the problem I see is with your legs. Your legs are moving up and down through your swing, this should not happen because it is causing you to become vertical which could in turn cause you to change your club face angle and your swing plane which is why youre probably mishitting. Focus on moving your legs forward through impact, not up. Also widen your stance, your feet are way too close. If I was you, I would quit paying for lessons until you fix this problem because you are waisting money. Go to the range and focus on moving through the ball and staying down and also widen your stance.
  10. This is my first year of playing golf, I played some last year but only 5-10 times. I have really been playing quite a bit lately, hitting the range and practice green as much as possible. I was shooting in the 105-110 range less than 2 months ago and I have fixed many things in my swing through the help of my friend who is a scratch golfer. Yesterday I played 18 at a par 72 course and shot a 91! It could have been lower but my short game still has many hiccups. I feel that shooting in the low 90's after a month and a half was pretty impressive. It could have been mid 80's if I would have made a few of the handful of mid range par putts that I missed. So general thoughts on how I am improving and how long did it take you to break 90?
  11. What's up everyone, first post on here. I am a new golfer just picked it up at the end of last summer, I am not too bad I shoot a consistent low 90's already. The thing with my swing is I cannot control my grip if I dont baseball grip the club. I basically just cover my left thumb and have every finger wrapped around the club. If I try the varden grip or overlap the club moves in my hand to much and I shank the ball. Any thoughts?
