  1. I think that it is possibly worthwhile checkin the lofts of the irons concerned, The M2 Tour Irons have a 3 iron set at 18.5 and a 4 iron set at 20.5. The M2 4 Iron is set at 19.5. Historically a one iron was set at 16, a 2 iron set at 19. So in fact the M2 Tour 3 iron is in fact a 'strong' 2 iron while the M2 4 Iron is in fact a slightly weak 2 Iron. With regard to 2 irons and 3 irons not being available you might care to check out the Mizuno range as they have 1, 2 and 3 irons. The MP15 has a 3 iron set at 21, the MP25 has a 3 iron set at 21, the MPH5 has a 1 iron at 16, a 2 iron at 18 and a 3 iron at 21.
  2. Getting started is the most difficult thing. No-one wants to be embarrassed by walking into a gym and feeling out of place, I understand that very well. Two thoughts: 1.) Assuming that you have a bicycle go to Amazon and get a CycleOps indoor cycle trainer. Easy to use easy to assemble. Start with ten minutes at a decent cadence around 60 - 80 revolutions per minute. Build this up by 1 minute per day until you are doing one hour. Cycling is great, very little pressure on the lower body compared with running. The fat will pour off you over the course of a month to six weeks. Five days a week, no more. 2.) Go buy a set of TRX straps see the internet and YouTube. They are great, take them wherever I go. The best bit of home help gym equipment ever in my humble opinion. Food, Fruit, nuts, lean protein, carbs lots of green vegetables and protein shakes. If you are training you need to put the calories in or you will feel tired, listless and won't want to train. All the best.
  3. Assistance please: I have for years swung with an in to out path +4 degrees. While that has not altered I am occasionally suffering from a closed clubface at impact which induces a big draw/hook. This can occur from a 9 iron upwards. I have a neutral grip. Any drills to assist in removing this gratefully accepted. Thank you.
  4. A question, are you doing these 200 - 250 press ups as one continuous set? Likewise are you holding a plank for 8 minutes? If you are, big respect!!
  5. This thread has been a very interesting read. I am of the opinion that it has now been 'pretty well' proven that a fit, strong, athletic individual will be able to potentially generate greater club head speed. Lets face it, the fitness gurus at TPI do in fact know their stuff. To that end a fitness program in the 'off season' can be constructed that works on overall conditioning and strength as opposed to massive bulk which surprisingly a number of golfers seem to deem necessary. Lets be honest, you do not need to be able to bench 300Lb+ unless you want to compete in the Long Drive world. Five days a week, an hour to an hour and a quarter in the gym plus 40 - 50 minutes on a static bike will get the job done. 1 x exercise of chest, biceps, triceps, back, shoulders and legs every day of the five days with two days complete rest from the gym. Also included in the workout are 4 x core exercises that I use as a warm up. Happy to discuss further should anyone wish to.
  6. Here is a thought for you. Tom Wishon makes a Fairway Club called the 919F/D (Fairway Driver). The club is available at 11 or 14 degrees with the option to have the loft bent up to 1 degree either strong or weak. This club fits your requirement for having a 3 wood type club but with a larger head. This one is 200cc. Take a look wishongolf.com if nothing else it a great education reading some of the articles on fitting. And yes, I do use Wishon, so am a convert. Driver set at 10.25 with 44.5" Wishon Red Label 65g (Stiff). In addition two hybrids, set at 20 and 24 degrees with Wishon Black Label Hybrid shafts 85g. Enjoy.
  7. Jul89 good afternoon A big fan of Wishon despite what the naysayers and ignorant preach. Am playing a Wishon 919THI Driver with 10.25° of loft with a 44.5" Wishon Red Label 65g Stiff shaft. In addition am playing a 20° and 24° Wishon 775HS hybrids with Wishon Blach Hybrid 85g Stiff shafts. I spent a great deal of time reading his articles and then reading Forums attempting to avoid comments from the uninitiated and those with IQ of pond life. From there I found three club builders from his website in the reasonably close viscidity. Called all three and spoke at length. Ended up getting fitted for the clubs mentioned above. Will be looking to possibly change out my 19° Callaway X2 Hot Fairway wood for the Wishon 950HC set at 16.5° to give just a tad more carry. Irons are Mizuno MP15 custom fit by the same fitter/builder. His stuff is good and I see little reason to be considering changing anything bar the Fairway wood mentioned above in the foreseeable future. There is just no great advantage despite what the advertising companies working for the large manufacturers will have one believe. My last set of Pings were in the bag for 15 years!! Hope this helps
  8. Chris, here my two pennyworth. It may sound like sacrilege on this site but suggest that you go to www.golfwrx.com. In the site search put in the name Tom Wishon. There are a huge number of articles there from him. He trully is regarded as the the guru with regard to club fitting in the States. Yes, I will admit that as a small bespoke manufacturer he does push his own agenda a bit but the principles of what he has to say are 100% on the button. Also you might care to take a look at his website and read his articles on fitting that are there; www.wishongolf.com If nothing else this will give you hours of education through the ever shortening afternoons as we head into autumn. By the way I play Mizuno Irons, Callaway Fairway Woods and a Wishon Driver. I am not a total Wishon acolyte. Good luck Clarkie
  9. Pete, greetings I have been fascinated by your postings that I have read over the past few months. Your commitment to the cause is inspiring. Keep the good work going. I have noticed from numerous postings that strength, power, fitness is an area that you are working on as part of your overall plan. If you like I could suggest a program that has assisted me in keeping as near to the power that I had having passed Pre Parachute Selection (P COMPANY) thirty plus years ago. I noticed in one of your earlier posts that you mentioned you had been RAF Reg so you know what I am talking about even if the septics on here do not!! Most of it is based around body weight exercises, the use of TRX straps and that old favourite a bicycle. I do not necessarily want to get into an in-depth discussion using this means but should you be interested would be happy to put forward some ideas and thoughts that have assisted me. To give you an idea I am 1 stone heavier than when I passed P Coy at age 21. That 1 stone is muscle not blubber. Happy to chat should you want. All the best.
  10. Just my 2 pennyworth. I took the time and paid the money to get properly fitted for my driver. I am 6' 5" tall weigh 200# and am athletic even though I am 58. My average driver swing speed is 101mph. I had been an interested observer of Tom Wishon and his product line and decided to take the plunge having been experiencing difficulties controlling my Ping G25 12.5°. I found a Wishon approved fitter via the website. The fitting lasted two hours and was extremely detailed. I hit two different types of heads, the normal 919THI 460 driver and the somewhat smaller 919 Fairway Driver. I hit about 100 shots over the course of two hours and tried twelve different shafts. I ended up purchasing the 919THI set at 10.25°, the face 1° closed, with a Wishon Red Label 65g Stiff shaft at 44.5". The reduction in shaft length with a properly fitted shaft for my strength and swing dynamics has allowed my far more confidence from the tee. I carry the ball an average of 245yds. Roll out is whatever the conditions allow. I am a firm convert to shorter driver shafts. While I am competent, a strong 6 handicap I am by noway a golfing god. The thing I always find confusing is why part time golfers believe that they can use equipment that top professionals don't or can't. The average driver shaft length on the PGA Tour is 44.5". I believe that both Garcia and Donald use 43.5" driver shafts. Why then are the manufactures making shaft lengths at 45.5" and 46"? Answer: Because the 1 time in 20 that someone does actually catch it clean is the shot that they remember as opposed to the 19 other slices and pulls. As I said at the start, 'just my two pennyworth'.
  11. So here are a couple of charts. The first is the make up of my set, the second my short, average and long carry distances. Note, these are carry not total. Driver swing speed 98mph, so not fast. Am looking to work on that and get to 105mph if possible. MAKE CLUB LOFT WOODS WISHON 919THI DRIVER (44.5”) 10.25 CALLAWAY X5 HOT 5 WOOD (43.0”) 19.0 HYBRID WISHON 775HS 3H 20 WISHON 775HS 4H 24 IRONS MIZUNO MP15 5 IRON 28 MIZUNO MP15 6 IRON 32 MIZUNO MP15 7 IRON 36 MIZUNO MP15 8 IRON 40 MIZUNO MP15 9 IRON 44 MIZUNO MP15 PW 48 WEDGES SCOR 52 GW - 52 SCOR 56 SW - 56 SCOR 60 LW - 60 PUTTER PING SCOTSDALE 4 The make up of this set at least loft wise is anything but standard. From the 3h at 20° through to the 60° wedge there are constant 4° gaps which work for me. I was fitted for the Wishon driver and hybrids and the MP15s. I lucked into the Callaway fairway wood. Just hit one at a range and found that I was getting as much length as I was with my 15° Ping G15 but with far greater height. Am looking for the Callaway 4 Wood set at 17° to maybe get a few more yards off the deck. 12. Just something to be aware of when using Google Maps from a cellphone. GPS accuracy can be up to several meters depending on your GPS signal and connection to local towers. If you really want to do the job properly you need to use a hand held sat system which with the latest devices using either degrees, minutes and seconds or MGRS should give you close to five meters accuracy. Civilian applications that provide greater accuracy such as this used by Oil and Gas companies which are hugely accurate cost tens of thousands of dollars.. The alternative is to use a laser measuring system which are, depending upon how much you are prepared to spend, 'almost' spot on. Final thought for obtaining distances, take time with a club fitter who uses Trackman or something similar. They are pretty much on the mark as well. Just my two penny worth.
