  2. I went through something very similar after a swing improvement session (lesson) and it terrified me. My teaching pro told me it was just an adjustment period that old muscle memory was fighting. He told me to just relax and go out and hit balls at the range for a few more days and it should all fall into place. The next day, I was hitting the ball better than I ever had in the past. I hope you have a similar experience.
  3. The Links Golf Club in Newmarket, England, is built within the confines of an old horse racing track. You have to cross the track to get from the club house to the course and there are a couple of times when you have to cross the track to tee off back into the confines. It is so well constructed that you easily forget the track is there.
  4. Oh, there is no doubt that it is entirely psychological. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot.
  5. I don't know how to hit my 5-iron. I cannot find the middle of that club to save my life. I gave up on it and either go aggressively after a 6 or lay off a 4. I am baffled why I am so much more comfortable with a 4-iron in my hands. Me and my 3-wood have a little conversation whenever it first comes out of the bag in a round that goes a little like this. "Ok, I don't like you and you don't like me. But this isn't about us. We both have a job to do here and let's not let it get personal today." The ensuing shot usually tells me whether or not it's worth bringing out again for the day.
  6. I don't mind wearing clothes that meet the standard dress codes as they also tend to be the best performing/most comfortable clothes for golf. Funny thing I noticed while golfing in many different places over the globe. Most golf courses in first world countries tend to have similar dress codes for golf. England may have been the place where I saw it most stringently enforced. However, just across the northern border, Scotland was by far the most lax. From what I saw in Scotland, golf is far less formal and far more like a visit to the local park. I saw that a large percentage of villages had their local course where there is no formal clubhouse. You simply put some money in a box on the first hole and get going. You see families grabbing some clubs, walking up to the golf course, throwing a few pounds in the honor box and starting out according to whoever got there first. What they wore was irrelevant and there was no showmanship to it. It was just a standard family outing that often included taking a dog for a walk. The birthplace of golf doesn't let silly things interfere with their pastime.
  7. And another vote for the Snell. I also have abandoned Titleist in favor of the Snell. I also really appreciate the hand-written note from Dean Snell every time I buy from him.
  8. I voted 1-2, but I really think it's more of a "might be" 1. As the OP pointed out, it's all about executing the shots. Jack's advice may sway me into making a wiser choice, but I still have to execute the shot. My mental game problems are more about staying focused on the game than making a wise decision (thanks to LSW).
  9. Google says: "Some tees, even in good growing environments, have problems built in from the start. To keep costs down, developers often construct tees from soil collected on site or from pond-dredge spoils. These materials often have poor properties for turf growth, especially in conditions of heavy play. Also, in the haste of construction, these soils often don't receive proper compaction and settling results in an uneven surface."
  10. I pulled a Tin Cup and threw up an 13 on a par 5 last year. It should have been a 6 or 7, but I've been known to stubborn.
  11. When I ride in a cart, I become disconnected. Walking a round is a far more enjoyable, relaxing experience.
  12. I think you need to replace the shaft regardless. If the problem persists, you know it wasn't the shaft's fault.
  13. Another way to look at this is to ensure your weight is coming forward. When you are taking a partial swing, it's real easy to leave that part of the swing out.
  14. For everything except the putter, I focus on a distinct part of the golf ball (a letter in the logo, the number, a dimple). However, mentally I am always focusing on "throwing my club" at the target. This helps me to drive the ball at my target instead of simply swinging to hit the ball. With the putter, my number 1 rule is to never look at the putter head--if I do that, I get caught up worrying about the path of the club and lose focus on putting the ball to a target. Instead, I kind of focus on the path I want the ball to travel on and don't really focus down on any details. I am looking at the ball, but it isn't my focus.
