  1. I can consistently drive the ball over 300 yards and I'm 6'2" and 168lbs (measured this morning). I think a twenty handicapper could do it, but they wouldn't have much control over it. In fact, a lot of golfers I see just rip the ball of the tee, but can do nothing else. A couple of times this summer I played with people I didn't know and was out to have fun, so I pulled driver on pretty much every hole just trying to go for it, mainly from their encouragement. Can't tell you how many times I have heard "I've never seen anybody drive this green before". And I read somewhere something about 9 irons from 150-160... thats a pitching wedge for me, maybe a smooth 9 iron, but I could get a PW that far without too much umph. btw, I'm not a 20 handicapper, but there are bad golfers who hit farther than I do.
  2. My swing is different. Off the tee, I have a longer swing (shaft parallel to ground) and I get much more power from the ground up. I'm typically the long ball in my group. With my irons, I take a much shorter and controlled swing. I don't draw the ball with irons, except for maybe a yard or two, and I aim dead at the target. My driver typically draws quite a bit. I don't rely so much on power from my irons, as I haven't found a need to.. Haven't been to many courses that require a really powerful iron to reach in regulation, and if it does, i just lay up.
  3. It could be a lot of things... a few that come to mind would be head movement (looking up), standing too far away from the ball... standing up a little bit, or not keeping your spine angle.. maybe an outside to inside swing path... could be many things. What is your typical ball flight(if you don't have a video..)???
  4. Ours is the 23rd and 24th. The current champ is playing well right now, hcp +1. I've heard other members say that he should "have fun playing in the club championship by himself". I'm looking forward to it. I'll be working in it, not playing.
  5. Bombed a 3 wood to ~185 out on a short par 5. Hit a 7 iron solid to 10' pin high. Missed eagle, but it was the middle birdie on my 3 in a row to end the round.
  6. Never flipped one, but have been thrown out of plenty. I work at a club and drive carts up and down all day. Had a co-workers little brother drive one into a pond a couple weeks ago. Just yesterday, we did have a car accident happen on the street that goes along part of our course. Head on collision that sent two cars down onto the 2nd hole, right between the mens and womens tees. No golfers were injured, but one of the drivers was taken to the hospital with a broken arm, but nothing serious. Not bad for having to be cut out by the jaws of life. This is definitely not the first, nor the last. We have had member taken out during their swings by cars that come flying around an S curve and lose it. Scary business.
  7. Played a not so quick 9 before work today. Shot a 34 on the back 9, par is 35. Good weather with little wind. Hit irons well and the short game really helped me out. 15 putts (still getting used to the scotty, first round with it was last night) 4 fairways. Closed out the round with 3 birdies in a row. The eagle would have been great tho. PS This makes 5 consecutive rounds without going into a bunker... probably ~80 holes
  8. I don't know if this would help or not, but it's something I do with my wedges. Think of your left arm as a hand on a clock. Take a few practice swings and watch your left arm and try to keep at like 9 o'clock and not much passed, just for simplicity. Take a few swings until you can consistently stay at that 9:00 range, then go up to like 10 and see if you can work your way back into a full swing, just not so full. If you do try this, hopefully you don't smack yourself in the back of the head with the clubhead.
  9. I could be wrong, but in the second video, it looks like your grip is fairly weak. Try turning your left hand over the top of the club more so that you can see at least your middle finger knuckle. My grip is turned enough to almost see my third knuckle. This should help with a slice, if you have one.
  10. I have a huge problem of hanging back and not rotating my upper body through the swing. My boss and PGA pro at our club watched me tee off the first hole last night and he said "Your swing is great, it's just that your balance sucks. Chest over foot." So, to be sure I make a complete turn, my chest should be directly over my left foot. I got it right on a few holes and was hitting a mile with a beautiful draw.
  11. I'll let you know today... just ordered a new 3 wood yesterday that is 13* just for those days when I'm not hitting driver well, I'll still be able to get a few yards off the tee. Generally, I carry the ball 290+.
