  1. I agree with Everardo. I have had both and liked them both. I did not notice less spin with the PXs but I ultimately favored the Spinners. Now I have a new set up Mizuno MP-Rs with 5.5 Spinners and they are the best wedge I have had. I know it was luck but I had 2 shots go in the hole last Saturday with my 58 from around 20-30 yards out. I also had 2 others I got up and down from very tough spots. I am pretty sure I was just having a good day but it does inspire confidence in your equipment when you can do that.
  2. First of all, I have to give big Kudos to Gas_Can for a bit of help and persuasion on this one. He responded to a few threads/PMs and subliminally helped me out. I have been hitting a Taylormade TP R7 460 for the past few months. It had the stock TP Mits shaft and performed admirably but nothing to get excited about. I really liked the control of the head but I was not really killing it. This got me looking at other new drivers coming out and shaft options. I did some research on high dollar shafts and even got custom fitted for an Matrix Ozik Code 6 shaft. I ordered it up and got it in. I decided to wait for all the new drivers coming and did not want to waste it on my "old' 460. Last weekend I purchased a Sumo2 on a whim. I was scared to hit it because I was not sure I would really like it. This past week I found a demo model and was able to take it out and play a round with it. Boy am I glad I did not hit the new driver. Back to the shop it went. No amount of shaft customization was going to help me with that driver. Oddly enough, I hit my "old" 460 much straighter. Anyway, on Friday as I was returning the Sumo2, I noticed the Graphite Design Pershing shafts on the Golfsmith wall. I am a Proplan member and build most of my own clubs. After seeing the price of the shaft and consulting with the Golfsmith tech, I decided to try the Pershing 65g Stiff. I figured I could put this into my "old" 460 and this would keep me satisfied until the new Burner came out and I could get the Code 6 in it. I had the shaft Pured and put it in the "old" 460. Since the Burner is going to be a 46" driver I figured I would try the Pershing at 45.75" to get used to the extra length. The head weighs in at D6 which is a bit heavy but not noticeable at all. My swingspeed is 98mph and my bad shots are blocked right. I do not hit a slice but just get stuck inside too often. There is your background now for the results: I played a round this Saturday and then spent some time with it on the range yesterday and today. The shaft has transformed my "old" 460. I do not know if it is the extra length or what but I can mash this driver. I hate reading posts where people "claim" they are hitting something 30-40 yards further but I am now adding to my own disdain. I played our back tees and was hitting my driver in spots that I normally hit it in from the white tees. I marked off some drive only 10-15 yards further and some 35-40 yards further. this shaft is smooth and feels flexible in the "waggle test" but when you need to step on it it just hangs right in there. It lowered my ball flight a bit over the stock Mits TP shaft and has added a bit of draw to my shot. The main thing is it has given me confidence I have not had in a long time with my driver. Saturday, after I began to realize what I was able to do with the "new/old" 460, I hit my driver on holes I normally use a 3-wood or even a hybrid to keep it in play. I just knew I could pull off a shot with my driver if needed. Anyway, I cannot recommed this shaft highly enough. At the cost you can get one and if you are a Speeder 757 player or like a shaft that has that profile, you will be thrilled. Thanks again Gas_can and lookout. Anyone want to buy a brand new Code 6?
  3. I read about the Graman shafts and was surpirsed at the cost. I might have to try one of those.
  4. One other thing I might mention. I have spoken to 2 Matrix dealers and they both think I might not be a good fit for a TP-7x and more suited for a Code 6. The title of the thread is really telling the story if you read between the lines here. I am looking for a shaft with Ozik type performance for far less money.
  5. Gascan, Thanks so much for the insight and the PM reply. I sent you another reply via PM. I have a couple of drivers I play. I have the older Cobra I mentioned in the PM and it works the best for distance but is a good bit loose. I have to be very careful with my swing and thing sometimes leads to me "thinking" about my swing too much when playing. I am also using a Speeder 757 right now in a Titleist 905R (not a Speeder by Titleist) and it is still the best combo I have found for control. It gives me the best spin numbers on the LM but my launch is a bit low. What I would like to do with a newer driver I get this year is combine the control and distance and that is the reason for my searches right now. I am hoping the high MOI driver will help with control and have hotter faces and I can combine that with the perfect spin control shaft and I will be in heaven. This is like the search for the Holy Grail and I may be in for a long search.
  6. I am hoping Gascan will jump in here. I am also looking at the Fujis, Diamanas and Axiv shafts.
  7. I guess my question should be anything else out there comparable for less money. I have had a Matrix MFS 65 orange shaft and loved it. It was very smooth and stable. I love powerful feel of the kick of the shaft without losing any stability. All the talk about the TP-7x and its playing characterisitics have got me wondering but the price tag is just too steep. I just went through a fitting session and was told to get a low launch/low spin shaft even though my swing speed is only 98mph. Anyway, I was hoping to get some advice on here. Thanks.
  8. Thats good to hear. I will be interested to hear what you get in real world situations. I had both on the driving range and for one round of golf. I had no appreciable difference in distance whatsoever and maybe a bit more with the G5. For me it all comes down to launch angle and spin rate and the Rapture did not fit me nearly as well.
  9. Well I was able to take the Rapture and the G5 out to my range yesterday. The Rapture had the new Aldila VS Proto 65 stiff and the G5 had the old Aldila NV Green 65 stiff. Both were 9 degrees. I was all ready to purchase the Rapture but I found it spongy and not nearly as hot feeling as the G5. It could have just been the shaft but I much preferred the G5. The sound was better and the ball flight was better. The G5 came off higher for me and travelled further in the air. I chalk all this up to the G5 just being a better match to my swing though. I have had 2 of the exact same Callaway drivers before and each was completely different. I would not hesitate to try the Rapture but for my money (and swing), its not worth it.
  10. Well guys, I spent some time looking at some of these irons today. I found a couple of used sets in a local Golfsmith and tried them in their hitting area. I just do not think anything is going to unseat my Titleists 735CMs. Sometimes I just find the right combo of shaft and head and I stick with it. I played Cleveland TA-7 Tours for almost 3 years. I bought them off a PGA Tour members caddie in the parking lot of the Bellsouth Open one year. He needed the extra cash and his man floated him some irons he didn't like. Anyway, they were TA-7 Tours without the Tour stamped on the hosel and had X-100 shafts that had been soft stepped. Once I got them bent correctly for me I stuck with them and was paranoid to switch. I still regret trading them on Pings. Anyway, all the other sets of TA-7s I tried were never them same. I have tried numerous sets of irons since then and never really found any that I was really happy with. I am getting to that point with the 735CMs. They may not be the best irons but they hit my sweet spot and I really like them better than anything else I saw today. Thanks for all the advice.
  11. Eric, I will check it out now. I wonder about your thoughts or anyone elses about the older RAC Combos. Anyone play these clubs?
  12. This may have been covered but I missed it. I originally read your review of the Titleist 735CMs and decided to give them a try. I loved them from the first ball I hit and in the bag they went. I have Rifle ProjectX shafts in them and couldn't be happier. Recently though I switched to a Taylor Made 460 TP driver and it got me to looking at the Taylor Made irons as well. I love the look of the TP CBs and was really jonesing for them as well. Then I get on here and look for some feedback and noticed you are carrying the MBs. So that leads me to my question, why did you switch? Is it a review or do you prefer them? I do not think I will part with my 735CMs because I like the combo set but I could try a set of TP Combos really cheap. They are a few years older but probably more in line with what I would look for in an iron. I am still hesitant as they did not get very good press. This leads me to my second question, are the old TP combos as good as the newer irons? Any feedback on this is appreciated. Thanks guys.
  13. Well, I can answer my own question now. After talking to Precision today (aka True Temper), Dan told me they can indeed be half stepped. He stated the Project X 6.0s half stepped down would reduce them by 3.5 cycles. That means that they will be about 5.65s. I have gone ahead and put them in my clubs this way. I do not carry a 3 iron so I will be able to leave that one off. I will have to order the 2 iron shaft for it later. Anyway DDBowdoin, the 5.8 may not be that far off if you half step them. I will let you know how they feel.
  14. I have hit been demoing the Project X shafts in a few clubs. I love them and want to make the switch. The issue is I have discovered I need the Hi-Launch versions. They give me a better trajectory in the long irons without ballooning the short irons. The problem arises that they only come in 5.0 and 6.0. The 6.0s are a bit too stiff and the 5.0s a bit too soft. I have been fitted to a 5.5 in the regular Project Xs. Can I get Project X 6.0s and half step them down? 3 iron in the 4 iron on down etc. I have been told by one club maker I could not do this but I do not see why not. Anyone tried this? Thanks.
  15. Brand new to the forum. Avid golfer with 9 handicap right now, formerly a 5. Taking lessons from my pro has been the most agrivating process of my life. Going backward to get better is tough. My goal is to play back down to below a 5 and shoot at least one round in the 60's this year. Never done that before. I look forward to discussions on here.
