  1. “Our range closes early on Sunday to do a “clean pick”, and reopens at 11:30 on Monday. It is mowed early Monday. The course is closed until noon on Monday’s.” Yeah, it sounds like your course at least considers golfers who are playing, i.e., if the “early” closing on Sunday is at 4 or 5, not many still trying to squeeze in a round would be disadvantaged. And then reopening the range at 11:30 on Monday, when the course itself doesn’t reopen until noon, likewise shows consideration. Agreed, closing the range on Monday or Tuesday morning (especially with a posted reopening time) makes way more sense (to me anyway) than closing at 3 on Sunday.
  2. Thank you; in retrospect, although it now seems obvious, I (obviously) had no idea that the range needed mowing and other care. [Now what about the choice of Sunday?]
  3. I’m hoping someone here can answer some questions about “driving range maintenance.” I went to a local public course today, hoping to get in some practice on the driving range; the sign says, “Driving range closes at 3:00 for weekly maintenance.” Okay, we have daylight here until about 8:30, so aside from wanna-be range rats, there’s still plenty of golfers who haven’t even started their rounds at 3:00, so this means no range practice for them. And I get that the course management wants to give employees a break, and have all carts returned by a certain time, so I don’t expect employees to be present until dark. But even if all employees are gone, including those in the pro shop, many of us pay for key fobs that enable us to get range balls on our own, so employees aren’t needed. Finally, in terms of maintenance, the driving range has mats, so if the grass is getting chewed up, I assume they could just limit players to the mats and give the grass a few days to recover. So, if that’s the case, what sort of “maintenance” would be needed? And why would it take 3+ hours? Does any of this make sense to anyone? [ Aside from doing the weekly maintenance on a Sunday, when it’s likely to be crowded; why not close the driving range for a few hours in the middle of the day on Monday?]
  4. Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought we were talking mainly about fixing fairway divots and ball marks on the green that weren’t necessarily under our ball or in our line?
  5. What kind of things did she use to make a “simulated clock face”?
  6. I lean toward concluding that Kuchar’s been a little cheap here, but when all is said and done, it’s always easier to decide how someone else should have spent his money.
  7. Does the hip slide on the downswing have anything to do with creating lag?
  8. I think you may be missing the "subtext."The point that the Recreational Golfer is trying to make is that you don't have to hit the ball far, but you do have to be consistent and accurate from 130 yards and in. If your driver works for you, and you hit it consistently, long, and accurately, you're that much more likely to break 100. But even on a typical 6200-yard course, you can also break 100 if, on a typical par 4, you hit a club from the tee 130 yards on-line and in the fairway, hit the same club another 130 yards on-line and in the fairway, and hit a third shot 100-130 yards onto the green, then two-putt. [now I just have to learn to practice what I preach! ]
  9. I don’t mean to hijack the thread, but this was really good!
  10. The HOF is a private corporation, separate and apart from MLB. Therefore, Rose is ineligible only because the HOF chose to amend their eligibility criteria. Personally, I think Rose was a great player, who fully deserves to be in the Hall, but at the same time he’s a jerk who violated basic and essential MLB rules, so I have no problem with him being permanently banned from MLB.
  11. It's been a long time, and I haven't seen the movie, but IIFC, the police found a note, in her handwriting, listing the address of Kerrigan's practice rink. Some speculated that Harding was aware that "something" was going to happen, but she didn't know "specifically" that her ex-husband and his friend planned on knee-capping Kerrigan. If true and/or I remember accurately, this might have been some of the reason for the lifetime ban.
  12. Now retired; previously, I was an administrative law judge at a federal agency.
