  1. Hi everyone, I was looking to gain respective comments regarding comments by spectators at events in the golfing world. Having read a biography from a leading Euro golfer about their time in the U.S and seeing for myself comments made by US spectators ("Gerr-in-da-hole" screamed from the tee at 600 yard par 5's) it has me wondering about thoughts surrounding said specatators that may be more vocal than others. I am not claiming any moral high ground here as the Euro tour probably has its share of halfwits also, however every time I hear "Gerr-in-da-hole" I cringe, it is a call that is up there with a mobile phone going off, it is unneccessary, uninvited and undeserving of a sport that demands its participators to uphold the aspects of society that are slowly being eroded over time. What are the thoughts of the other posters on here? Am I being over dramatic? Am I being pretentious? (God, what will my mother think of me?) or am I making a statement that fellow posters agree with?
  2. Monthly medal play today, outward 9 of 44 and then returned in 39! Sooooooo frustrating when you know you have a good round in you somewhere 83 - 15 = 68 3rd in class, lowest gross as well and as a bonus was cut another 0.3
  3. I play a course 6000 yards off of the yellow tees, usually takes a 2-ball 3 hours, if in a 3-ball it's around 3 hours 15-30 minutes and a 4 ball is 4 hours. Medal play see's us no matter what (3 ball or 4 ball) playing 4 hours. Frankly anything over 4 hours and I would be questioning where the hold up has resulted from, I can recall a round whereby my partner and I were comfortably cruising around the course with no-one around for 3 holes or so, by the time we got to the 3rd we could see a group of 3 women and 1 guy up ahead at the 6th, using past experience we worked out that by about the 9th or 10th we would expect to be catching them (early part of our course is slow in relation to rest of course). By the time we were at the 6th we could see the 4 ball standing on the burn at the 7th taking photo's of each other, fair enough - they were visitors, unsure of the course layout we would catch up shortly and be let through.... Well that is what would be expected in normal circumstances, we ended up spending 10 mins or so on the tee at a few holes before deciding enough was enough and cutting across in front of them (I should add that there is a little loop to my course around the turn containing 3 holes), wouldn't usually bother about only getting in 14 or so holes however it was one of those occassions where you are playing well and would be keen in keeping a score
  4. That looks great!! Would be great to get the chance to play a hole like that, hat's off to the person that thought of that idea!!
  5. Kind of late but on Wednesday I shot my best ever score of 80. The course had been shut in the morning because of the classy Scottish wintery weather, which was snow, sleet and rain intermingling every couple of minutes. My usual playing partner couldn't make the round so I was set up for not playing a round anyway. The weather got better throughout mid - late morning and by lunchtime the sun was out and was like a usual Spring day. I decided to phone the course to see if it was open and was told the positive news, I think because I was out on my own, on a round that was a surprise that I played better. My swing felt composed, yet aggressive and my course management was obviously in the right as holes where I would try to carry water would lay up and lines where I would usually refrain from aiming at I was targetting and reaping the rewards. Overall I was and still am, happy with my game that day. I am looking eagerly at taking part in a few more comps this year and want to improve even further to reduce my h/cap as much as I can. I don't know if it is just because the Spring and good weather hangs tentatively in the air but have a good feeling about my golf just now - here's hoping it will improve and that my enthusiasm stays high
  6. Can I ask if this practice is prevelant throughout golf in the U.S? Going by a few comments it would appear not, and it appears quite the topic for discussion with replies ranging from course revenue maker to course requirement due to length between holes. Also what is the general going rate for cart hire bearing in mind the courses insistence on the use of them? How does this compare to green fees as a ratio? What is the difference in time to play a round with and without a cart - ie the issue has been raised about two players sharing a cart and having to plan a route to drive to both balls, does this affect the flow of the round? Sorry to ask so many questions but it is something that I have no experience of, part of my enjoyment of golf is sauntering down the fairway with the sun shining in the sky having a relaxing time with friends (obviously this is based on the round being on one of the 2 sunny days per year that Scotland has ) I'm not sure how this could be matched by having to worry about where I had parked the cart and remembering 3 holes later when I had started walking the course
  7. Good luck in your comp, I see from your h'cap that you play off 5 so you are probably a decent player anyway so no matter what I say you will already have enough experience and game to have a good one! Enjoy the round and play to your strengths, not your playing partners.

    Eagles?

Only had the one and no-one saw it apart from me, my course has a driveable par 4 (the 7th) with a good westerly wind behind you. I have drove the green a few times and this one time I was out for a wee hit by myself, drove to the back of the green and had a healthy 25ft putt downslope from right to left, just gave it a nudge and in it slid. Cue near hysteria from me before realising I had no partner to celebrate with As per usual, I have never come close to it again
  9. Hi everyone, only been golfing for a few years but have the bug big style, studying at Uni just now although looks like I will be seeking employment at some point in the spring which obviously means my golf will be moved from midweek to the weekend, I'm not too sure how I will cope playing the game at the weekend pace after being so used to often going out to play the course with just me, my playing partner and a few other regulars further out on the course!
  10. Not too sure how relevent this is to a lot of the posters on here as the vast majority appear to be U.S. based but my course is http://www.niddrycastlegc.co.uk/ Under 10 miles from Edinburgh airport and The Forth Road & Rail Bridges
  11. Firstly I tend not to use the driver when teeing off, I'm more comfortable using my 3 wood so you can take my views with a pinch of salt I tee the ball up with the writing on the ball facing the direction I wish the ball to go, this gives me focus on swinging the club through the ball in a straight line instead of cutting across or pushing through the ball, although I should also point out that the line of writing is also a good guide for me focussing in trying to add a bit of draw or fade to my drive as I can attack the ball from the top or bottom of the writing depending on which choice of drive I am wanting (or hoping) to do.
  12. For me it's the weather, the family are kind enough to let me off the reins for my 3-4 hours of golf, the only thing that holds me back is rain/wind/snow/thunder etc! Although the rain and wind are not usually factors to playing a round, for those in the know of Scottish weather it's not always the case, especially in the East!
