  2. Regrettably I seem to watch more FOX than I'd like. It's on the tube often where I live. I'm more of an NPR guy personally. Precisely - especially the last part in bold. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to detect their agenda instantly. Many on the right wing like to justify their FOX preference by trying to argue that it's a credible, unbiased news source. Why bother? Why are you seeking my validation/approval? We like to watch/listen to outlets that align with our world views - own it.
  3. CNN more biased than FOX - now that's laughable. FOX is a 24 hour op-ed. Don't get me wrong, CNN has a left bias, but nowhere near to the degree of FOX's right bias.
  4. Recently finished A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson - highly recommended if you're at all interested in science and history (and scientific history!). Currently reading Chesapeake by James Michener. I'm about halfway through and loving it. If you enjoy historical fiction this is a good one. I'm particularly fond of it, having grown up on the Chesapeake Bay.
  5. There are so many variables in climatology that it'd be very difficult to "prove" that mankind is adversely effecting the climate, however - on the other side of that coin, it seems rather foolish to think all this crap we are putting into the atmosphere isn't throwing off the balance in some way. Trying to reduce emissions certainly can't hurt and should never be ridiculed as some conservatives are apt to do. One interesting point that I've read in several places is that the earth is not in as great danger of warming as it is of cooling. Meaning - warming will very quickly (relatively speaking) result in an ice age. Warming increases precipitation, and with that comes increased cloud cover. Fewer sunny days means less snow melts in places. Over time (we're talking centuries if not more) snow builds up more and more, simultaneously reflecting heat away from the planet, cooling it even more. It's a snowball effect at its finest, pardon the pun.
  6. I voted yes. Say, in another 10 years or so, once the course is a little more seasoned, they can figure out how to improve fan accommodations, and above all get their greens figured out. I didn't mind that the course was a little unconventional for US Open standards. Enjoyed seeing the players be tested, and at the end of the tournament, the winner was just a few under par. That's how it's supposed to be. Particularly enjoyed watching the prime time East coast coverage - not FOX, but that's another can of worms.
  7. Been lurking for awhile and have decided to join. Probably won't be posting much but plan to read quite a bit. Lots of helpful information here. I am somewhat new to golf, have been playing three years. I work in the industry so I play for free - comes in handy! All the best.
