2. Inects are animals , people are animals. Bubba missed a trick, he should have sought to have the anthill classified as an imovable obstruction- an artificial object (eg a building).
3. Sentence I thought I'd never say, "hey did you see Bubba and a Rules official having an arguement over anthropdology and entomology at the USPGA last night."
4. Pretty sure you can't play a provisional when a ball has clearly gone into a water hazard or OB.while he may have called a provisional he was by action taking his penalty for a water hazard and his"provisional" was ball in play.he should not have then taken a drop but continued playing his 2nd ball.playing 4.
5. Playing behind the oblivious golfer who has learnt every preshoot routine from watching pro golf and incorporates a pro golfers fastidious to their own shot selection. Who when playing a straight long Par 4 with no dogleg water or bunkers in reach off the tee will... Have to be told it is their honour and after putting away their course book in which they have been marking their stats from the previous hole will walk on to the teebox, take course book back out, find the correct hole, assess picture & compare picture to real life, walk from yardage marking on teebox to tee markers,deduct/add yardage difference.pluck grass and throw once..twice... Three times a charm.return to bag, reach for driver but pause to briefly consider 3wood not because he would ever take it but considering it allows him believe he has good course managment. Grab driver in a cavalier manner. Remove cover, return to teebox, proceed to rear of teebox, visualise shot.pluck and throw grass.put on glove, approach tee markers. Reach into pocket and discover ball/tee or both are missing. Return to bag, search in bag, return to rear of teebox. Revisualise shot, pluck and throw grass to ensure wind direction/strength hasn't changed.take one... two... three practice swings minimum.approach tee markers, Place ball on tee, take 2 practice swing minimum, stand behind ball for final visualisation, One final practice swing maybe two.stands over the ball double checking feet alignment and grip. Final waggle Visualise Deeeeep breath and Golf Shot. Of course there is one thing worse then playing behind this guy and that's playing with him. Knowing the whole world is waiting behind you watching with eyes full of hate.
6. Sorry rulesman, morning coffee hasn't kicked in.S&D;? Substitute and drop?
7. I'm happy enough with 9/12, the 3 I got wrong (1 7 8) I knew I was guessing and in a real golf situation would have consulted the rule book or flagged it and checked before submitting the card.
If you announce your intentions to take an unplayable before shaking, you can then shake the tree to dislodge your ball.
Be careful though, you need to identify your ball before declaring it unplayable. Lydia Ko had a similar situation recently, the rules official allowed her to identify it as her ball based on spectators witnessing it.
8. Yikes too many infractions to count.a real bugbear of mine is lads who have no interest in learning the rules and post scores in comps and if at some future date their rule breaches come to light their saved by the rules Rule 34-1 A penalty of Dq can not be imposed on a player after a competition has closed,if they where unaware they breached a rule.
9. This swampy wet ground may not necessarily be part of what is deemed a water hazard
You are overlooking what has already been mentioned in the thread. If a ditch, pond, stream etc meets the definition of a water hazard, it is a water hazard whether marked or not and you can proceed under Rule 26. See Decision 26-3
So decision 26-3 may not apply
You can't just decide to deem a large area as casual water: the presence or not of casual water (as defined ) will determine the extent of ground affected. If you had decided the area in question was not a water hazard you could only take relief from casual water where casual water existed and only if it interfered with lie, stance or area of intended swing. My l apologies if I have misunderstood what you meant by deeming the whole area as AGC.
Yes I was just taking a shortcut saying deem the whole area to be AGC. If the area had numerous small patches of casual water* you would have no way to determine exactly which patch you had entered and should proceed under lost ball . However if on arrival at the area you realised your ball had entered an area of casual water 20yrd by 20yrds a full 30yrds short of the creek, you could quite easily argue your ball was lost in an AGC and proceed under 25-1 C Ball in Abnormal Ground Condition Not Found It is a question of fact whether a ball that has not been found after having been struck toward an abnormal ground condition is in such a condition. In order to apply this Rule, it must be known or virtually certain that the ball is in the abnormal ground condition. In the absence of such knowledge or certainty, the player must proceed under Rule 27-1. If it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in an abnormal ground condition, the player may take relief under this Rule. If he elects to do so, the spot where the ball last crossed the outermost limits of the abnormal ground condition must be determined and, for the purpose of applying this Rule, the ball is deemed to lie at this spot and the player must proceed as follows: (i)Through the Green: If the ball last crossed the outermost limits of the abnormal ground condition at a spot through the green, the player may substitute another ball, without penalty, and take relief as prescribed in Rule 25-1b(i). *Normally to determine if an area is under casual water I press down with my foot(not excessively or on the green) and if water comes up i deem it casual water
By the way, when you say you have to be sure of where your ball crossed the margin of an AGC, have you considered Rule 20-2b Where to Drop? When a ball is to be dropped as near as possible to a specific spot, it must be dropped not nearer the hole than the specific spot which, if it is not precisely known to the player, must be estimated. Do you think this permits you to estimate where the ball last crossed the margin of an AGC when you aren't sure?
yes I do believe this allows you (and your playing partners)to estimate your point of entry. To be honest the whole idea of getting a free drop out of abnormal ground condition similiar to the OPs situation is extremely messy and fraught with plenty of potential rules infringements but it is in my opinion possible.
10. Not in full agreement with everyone. If the area is not marked as a water hazard by stakes and there's no local rule relating to it then you treat it as part of the course. Normally when you can't find your ball then it's lost proceed under lost ball rule. However you may have a case to call it casual water which would be covered under abnormal ground conditions. You do not need to find the ball, free drop.(rule 25-1 section c I think of R &A;). you do need to be very careful applying this rule, your fellow competitors would have to be in agreement, you would have to be sure where you entered and you would have to deem the whole area as AGC.obviously a group of players making such a call between themselves could open a whole can of worms so really as many have mentioned the course needs to address this issue
11. There is a rule for this situation, it's called taking a provisional. Yes in your situation and we've all been there, you didn't realise how close you really where to the woods,it happens when you don't know a course, a member probably would have hit provo. If it was me playing a casual or Stapleford comp I would have scratched the hole.* if it was a stroke comp I would have had no choice but take the walk of shame. Funny though,I've scanned quickly through some of the responses and didn't notice anyone recommending you let the group behind you Play Thru. *we have different hcap process in Ireland(UHS). If a player records no score for a hole they would be awarded a double bogey just for hcap purposes not for the competition.
