I think a 54 and 60 should cover you nicely for just about any wedge shot you want to hit.

If she can afford it then I say the Mevo is a good option. If she can't then point her in the direction of a good gift guide. The one below has a few things I would like this Christmas, a Callaway Epic, the Bagboy Tri Swivel II. I already own an Arcoss 360, if I didn't that makes for a great gift to ask for as well.

You can find the Steelhead XR's for a good price pre-owned if you are comfortable going that route. I am not sure if you tried the Apex, or the Apex CF16. I found the Apex CF 16 was a great GI club, all the distance of the XR models with the soft feel of a forged iron.

Why did you abandon the round?. Was there not things you could work on in the back nine, or did the daylight catch up with you?

I would highly recommend looking into a golf range finder. I found it elevated my game to a next level. Our depth perception is not what we think it is, and my guess is I was overestimating distance, and found myself coming upshort often, or grabbing the wrong club.
