  1. Yes, I listened to the first couple of seasons but just lost interest in the content .. I think they have proven as many of us already know it's really hard to get to scratch ... esp as we age .... I was feeling confident in hitting my target this year of 5HC range(got to low 6s) but hit a wall in my short game in a few comps and now just over 9HC !!!! ...gutted but know it can go down just as fast esp during summer only 2-3 holes killing my score every round .. mental issues with one PAR3 at my local I think I've had a PAR on once in 20+ rds... I have great respect for anyone playing off low singles + golfers ...very impressive skills I do wonder how playing different courses can help one's HC aspirations ... my local is well know tough greens and tight lies to bare sand pockets close to fairways/greens.. my closest 18 holes course I play at and score much better on average ..last three rounds +7 +6 +3 ..Vs my course best +6 with many much higher
  2. I play in a family event a few times a year with many 20-30HC players recently I was beaten off the stick by my 23HC cousin hubby he got an 83 I had a shocker 87 ...to have beaten him I would have had to have scored a 66 off the stick !!! my lowest at our local course is 73 ...was his best game for the year ...so many lucky shots IMHO I'd say your mate won't need more than a couple of years to beat you ..
  3. Just picked up some Q star tour srixon golf balls on special + golf soxs
  4. Interesting down here in the DEEP SOUTH hemi ... I've never come across "flights " outside are club champs if you lose in the first round etc.. Over the 6 months, I've had some great rounds... At my local GC had a +1 - 73- at the time I was playing off 8HC so 7 under for 43pts ... got 3rd on count back and was in the 1st Division + to 14HC .... was my lowest ever score at that time by 3 shots ... deflating as we don't have a gross prize in the mid-week STB comp.... Start of this year played at a small country club PAR-68 with 30x players and no divisions and scored a tidy 70(nett-64)... got 5th ..first place was a nett-58...guy on 30HC .... ended up getting back my entry fee in prize money LOL ... Love playing in GOLF competitions/tournaments... pretty crazy with some of the winning scores NETTS 12-14 under etc I like looking at their recent Golf score history most usually have very few scores entered yet they come out and blaze a 78 off the stick under comp pressure on an 18-20-HC... !!!!
  5. Played a cracking good round today at a local course off the tips -71.3/126 It was early morning with heavy dew on the greens + recently cored greens so very slow for the first several holes like glue on some down hill punts ... (unlike my local GC with much faster greens) .. came up short so many times only inches from the hole ..so a round that could have seen me very close to PAR ... I ended up with a 77 ...my best round at this course off the tips... Best skilled hole off the tee + approach 524Y PAR 5 put my second on the green around 3yrds to the hole ...(I did 3-putt for a par ,,, but had a real chance of an eagle!! if only the greens weren't so slow and covered in worm castings)
  6. I've had more Eagles in the last several months than 2's !! .. being able to smash a Tee-ball a good way down the fairway on our shorter 455yd PAR 5 makes it more of a tough PAR4..
  7. I know it's my short game 9 out of 10 times costing me easy shots over a round.. a poor round 82-85 etc I'm averaging mid 30's putts hitting least 2-3 darts at the flag a round from the tee or 130yds+ (=easy putt) I did get to play with an Aus pro last year over 9 holes (he was in town trying to Qualify for the NZ Open his first round on the course) The majority of my shots of the tee were as good if not better(I'm sure he had some jet lag etc) ... but when it came to the short game the guy had some insane skills spinning his ball towards the hole / solid putting etc .. ... recently had our yearly Top 3 Putters of the Year award for the monthly medal .. guys with higher HC than me av 27 putts over the year 12 max medal rounds etc.. as low as 25 for a round ..
  8. yes I know at my local we have many different tee options(and combos) ... RED,SILVER,GOLD - Yellow,white,blue,black.. putting is by far where I lose the most shots perfect example in the SAT medal I had a woeful 36x putts for a total score of 82..even had a 4 putt on a PAR4!! So playing yellow below will not only take off shots but will force me to really play a much better short game to beat the course 3-4HC I'll get ... my best on average under HC scores comes from the BLUE tees ... the Black makes a few holes so much harder than the 3x extra shots I would get from the usual whites.. Also, I know if my goal was just to get to scratch I could just play the back 9 holes at my local course where I'm generally playing 1-3 over on a good day ..not far away from getting a few 35''s
  9. I came so very close to getting my first ever two Eagles in a round in WED COMP this week ... 4th hole PAR5 515 yards (stroke hole 1) ... after I drilled a lower strong drive to the inside corner of the Dogleg left some 240 yards out from one of the toughest elevated sloping downwards greens. I had thought of playing safe 4i get it within 20yds .. but I no thought I'd have a crack ... with my 18 hybrids.. hit it nearly perfectly straight (uncommon with this club) landed front of green rolled to the back green parallel to the pin still tricky side slope 12 ft to the hole ..aim high dropped low side of the hole YESSSSSSSS!!! my first ever eagle on the 4th !!(tough hole) .. then continued the round till I came to the 11th PAR5 455yards (hole I've eagled several times before)... again strong drive 150-160yards out ...8i to land front of green rolled just past hole some 8ft past ....downhill putt very fast part of the green .. so soft tap ball ran true to move towards left of the hole in half the ball went around the hole and back towards me to stop a fraction out of the hole !!!! what!! never had that before. hit the ball fraction harder than needed !!!! took the birdie moved on gutted ... so close a putt that I should have got
  10. Got the 16th PAR4 birdie .. in SAT medal comp ... a long very hard putt that just dropped somehow ...(couldn't do it again if I tried 50x times!!!)
  11. LOL, that's just me ... when I use my PITCHING Wedge to 50deg. I keep thinking that's a Pitch shot and when I use my 54-58 deg wedges I think of a chip closer (sometimes on the fringe... approach shot when I use any other club to the green. I know it's wrong just what has stuck in my self-taught golf mind .. . I never got GOLF coaching, school golf etc ..just a golf hack that took up the game socially in my mid 20's(not playing in comps till my 40's) ... still, I was 2 under after 15 holes on Wednesday .. wish I hadn't tried to play conservatively thinking PARs to finish would be insane to get a 70 score over a pretty hard course with some tough pin positions ... ended up with a 73 +1 ... pretty confident I'll be able to get to 5-6 HC this summer if I can tidy up my putting ... at 7.1 at present..
  12. Had my best chip of the year on SAT medal comp blue tees... PAR4 412yards smashed a baby fade to 290yards elevated location middle fairway 120yards to hole ...used my 50deg wedge hit it pure high ..was perfect straight at the hole (seemed to hang for a few seconds longer than expected) dropped 1ft front of hole and disappeared ???? thought it might have went right behind flag but no one hit and straight into hole on its second bounce .... my third only chip in from 100yds+,.....
  13. Nope had USA played better on DAY1 they could have won it ... Also EUROPE has won on US soil a few times before.. its not impossible ... its sport you have to play away sometimes
  14. Bring on the singles ...hope the EURO boys crush the yanks .. make it a record win ... great turn around from the last RC ... many on here talking of little hope for team EURO going forward ..oh how times have changed
  15. If it's true, that's pretty low. I used to like Cantley. How many millions have these guys made in the last couple of years? Talk about greed. It's a good reason why TEAM Europe are dominating playing for the LOVE of the Ryder cup ..Team YANK has turned up far too cocky after the last RC ..thinking they could pick out of-form players ... and not spending much time pre RC on the course It looks like EURO will win the CUP early in singles ... What is the worst-ever RC defeat? ...
