  1. Utley's method is by far the best I've tried. TN is right saying that if you hit it a little fat or little thin - the ball will still go in the vicinity of your target. If you are a feel player, then I would say this method is the right one for you. All you have to do is get the right weight on your left side - turn & turn - ball gets in the way. If you struggle with pitching the ball using this method, just make sure your right elbow does not get away from your right side - keep it close.
  2. Could possibly one of the reasons why she hasn't been replaced is the fact that she is good friends with Arnold Palmer? Who, if my memory serves me correct, is a co-founder of the Golf Channel?
  3. they did this all last year. I finally e-mailed them and eventually it seemed they stopped. I swear, TGC tries too damn hard sometimes. They report too much - I've already unsubscribed from the e-mailing list, it's just annoying now.
  4. It pains me to see one of my favorite players play the role of politician. So I will just move on. As for soccer in the USA, not likely for another 20 years before it gets popular. Look at all the countries that have soccer as their #1 sport. That is because it has been in existence of their culture for centuries now. There are clubs that are over 70-100 years old. It will be a while, but at least there are still enough fans to keep the MLS going - even expanding. In addition to that, it is becoming a breeding ground for top USA players (Dempsey *my favorite player, Beasley, Donovan, Klejstan, etc) and also becoming a good 'retirement' venue for the bigger name players such as Mr. Beckham himself.
  5. Look it's very quite simple. Yes, it may come off as sexist, but simply I do not like having women commentators for men's sports. For example, ESPN has a woman commentator sometimes for college football - it ruins it for me completely. I am sure others feel this way too. It's not 'hating' on women (please do not TRY to be offended), it's simply a matter of preference. Tilghman is okay, I just don't think she stands out. She doesn't try to sound like herself, she tries to sound like Bob Costas or Al Michaels, or even Jim Nantz. It just doesn't work for me.
  6. I was wondering if anyone goes this route for visualization on the greens. I stand behind the ball, I imagine myself standing there over the putt (almost like a ghost) and then making the putt - the last thing I "see" is myself raising my hands as if I'm celebrating. Next, after that image dissapears, I actually step up to the putt - look at the hole, then look down at the ball. Then I visualize the putter going back, hitting the ball, and seeing the ball go into the hole. After that...it's a go - and I execute the putt. Had some incredible results in today's practice session, was really just putting 'out of my mind' (no pun). Anyone else do this - or have something similar? I call it "Ghost Putting"...patent pending.
  7. I've tried EVERY single method out there, and it was the worse decision I've ever made. Now, I'm back to what works, my natural swing. May not look pretty (i'm not video taping it so I haven't seen it), but it gets the job done. Shots are better because my mind is at ease, hence more target-oriented. The type of swing is basically a setup like S&T; - on top of the ball in a sense. Then the backswing is focus on width, feel the stretch of my left arm and rib cage... and then just let go and strike the ball. Has been working well - just need to work on the short game more. Recently took out the bag from the trunk - only my wedges and putter, not to mention 9-7 iron for bump and run, remain there.
  8. Good post, David - thanks for that.

    Mini Tour Play

Just read all pages - keep this going Ben - congrats on your win! This thread has inspired me to really try to give my game a true hard look and really improve. I've found that I score so much better in tournaments than casual rounds. I'm going to re-join my old golf league and play in every tournament I can find. Thanks, Ben.
  10. Best way to improve is to play the game from your misses. I believe many have said this, but I've heard Jim Thorpe talk about this alot - and he is someone I admire, so I'll use him as my reference.
  11. congrats to Mike - he played a great round of golf. That putt on #14 really set things in the right direction. Would have been nice to see a playoff (as I always hope) between him and Fulton Allen though.
  12. If you're not stressed about it, then don't pay the guy in full. Instead, give him at least $20 to show him that you are a man of your word and a man of integrity. Remind him you're a college kid who is strapped for cash, but also remind him that you are a rare individual who owned up to his actions by going back to the scene. You have my respect though because you actually fessed up and talked to the guy. As far as I'm concerned you made up for your actions.

    Lessons

Hey - I decided as soon as I got back from being a hacker in Thailand that I wanted to get real good. I have tried pretty much EVERY type of golf swing out there, and it's not good. I advise you to get lessons right away. Do not get caught up in the internet hype - because the internet is a terrible place to learn how to swing a club if you are a hands-on learner (like me). As far as where in the KC area? I'm from Overland Park and I took lessons from Liz Smart from the OPGC (Overland Park Golf Course) http://www.opkansas.org/_Res/Parks_a...on/private.cfm , she is great - used to be on tour - was taught by Tom Watson's old coach. Another one, which I haven't been to (wanting to check out the range), would be Robin Nigro - http://robinnigrogolf.com/ they use the ModelGolf approach, so you could get a real in-depth look into your swing and what model you would like to try to swing like. Might be more $$ though.
