Excellnt Course, both layout and scenery

Posted

Pros: Well kept, awesome layout, great scenery

Cons: Price (if paying full price)

This course is just 1.5 miles down the road from Foxford Hills.  This layout I think is much more interesting that Foxford, which also makes it more challenging.  In recent years Foxford has gone up in price, where Chalet still has great twilight and sometimes prime time rates due to coupons in carious places such as greatgreenfees.com.  This course winds through protected wetlands, but it does nto play as a link style course as that might suggest.  Challening greens and non-flat lies due to countoured fairways make this course a great test.  Overall great experience.

Fox FordHills, fun course, decent layout.

Pros: Finishing holes, greens have some character

Cons: Sometimes slow in mid afternoon

This course has a fun layout, with challenging and contoured greens.  they are not your average muni-flat-spots at the end of a fairway.  That said, this can be a challenging course for beginners, from any tee, especially when the wind is up, causing some holes to play extremely long.  Holes 1-13 are intermixed with houses, with 2 holes in particular being played under giant power lines.  This is not a huge negative as the houses are not close the fairways in all cases.  Starting with 14, they are cut into mature woods, and 15 and 16 in particular are GREAT golf holes.  15 being the signature hole here.  Overall a nice course though, definitely worth a...

Good start course, easy to walk

Posted

Pros: Flat, easy to walk, nothign tricky about it, practice area.

Cons: Fairly boring layout, not much contour on the greens

This course is still relatively young, meaning the trees have not grown in etc.  It was built over an existing sod farm, so whatever bumps and hills are there were built when the course was laid out.  They have an 18 hole course I would categorize as "average" in length, maybe a hair on the short side, and a nine-hole course which is for sure on the short side.  Although not long, I have found the fairways don't roll out much, so that helps to make it seems longer than it really is.  Greens are mostly flat, and in decent condition.  Lot's of hackers out there usually so it's not a fast paced round when full at all.

Good course for the money

Pros: Excellently manicured greens, and areas around greens, polite staff, good pace.

Cons: Typical american "links" course, built in among houses

Played this course as part of a package on a trip to Myrtle beach.  Was the first course we played, and from what I had read about it, would be the worst.  Much to my surprise after the reviews I read this is a very nice course.  The greens were fantastically kept, not a ball mark on them, even colr and most omportantly they rolled as true as can be.  They were not in any way lightning fast, just what I would call average speed.  The area around the greens was maintained well also, with the fringe and fairways areas near the green simply perfect.  Overall the layout is nothing spectacular, but it is a fun course to play and provices excellent value for the...
