Excellent ball!

Posted

Pros: Excellent around the greens. Long off the tee. Great Feel.

Cons: Price.

All I can say is that this is an excellent ball. I typically play the Pro-V1 and this balls performance is right up there with it. It has great distance and feel off the tee. Callaway claims that they have engineered the aerodynamics of the SR1, 2, and 3 around the swing speed of the golfer which is easily measurable. The SR1 is made for swing speeds under 90 mph so it doesn't have to deal with drag at the lower speed off the club and focuses instead on increasing lift for greater distance. The SR3 is deigned more for swing speeds over 105 mph and the focus is more on reducing air drag do to its higher velocity. I have not tested the SR1 or 3, so I cannot say if I noticed a difference. It...

Uniquely Branded Golf Ball

Posted

Pros: Durable and long off the tee with good feel.

Cons: Only available via mail order.

I reviewed the Monsta golf balls over several rounds of golf at courses that I am familiar with. When opening the sleeve, I noticed the unusual Monsta eyeball logo on the cover of the ball. This certainly helps identify your ball on the course. The cover has a shiny appearance and a soft feel to the touch, and the Monsta Golf lettering on the ball has arrows on each side to use as an alignment aid. This ball is quite pleasing to the eye. This is impressive given that it is a new company that was founded by two guys who love golf and not a golf company backed with years of research and marketing experts.   They claim to have created a premium golf ball without the premium price and...

Unique Ball Mark

Posted

Pros: Well made. Nice conversation piece. Manufactured in the USA.

Cons: Pricey for a ball mark. Lack of instructions as to best use.

I will start off by saying the Warspec, Spec 1 Hand Finished golf ball mark is very nice and very well made. Having your initials engraved on the mark certainly adds style to it and is included in the Hand Finished product ($40). Paint fill is also included. The Black Ox version ($19) does not include engraved initials ($10 option) or paint fill ($5). This is not a ball mark that you will see every day, so it is a nice way to differentiate yourself from the masses other than by exceptional play.               Hand Finished Version Black Ox Version   The rounded edge helps to make sure that you replace your ball in the exact same place...

Game Improvement Iron with Great Look and Feel with Forgiveness

Posted

Pros: Cosmetically pleasing, high launch with increased distance, forgiveness with feel, easy fitting system

Cons: Less workability

I recall my first experience with Ping irons. They were rental clubs that I used quite a few years ago when I made a trip home and did not bring my clubs. I do not recall what the model was, but I remember looking down and thinking they were huge. I remember that they played pretty well, but there was a distinct lack of feel in them. I’ve never given Ping a serious look when shopping for irons because of that memory. Aesthetics are big factor with me in selecting golf clubs.     I am currently playing Mizuno MP-60 irons, but I still have a set of Mizuno MX-23’s that I am quite fond of. I previously owned a set of Adams A2-OS irons and switched to the Mizuno brand due to lack...

Back Support for Golf and Other Activities

Posted

Pros: Comfortable and supportive while active. Easy to put on and remove.

Cons: Not as comfortable at rest. Must be hand washed.

Background: I have issues with my lower back due to my hips getting out of alignment causing one leg to be longer than the other. I make regular trips to my chiropractor for adjustment but tend to experience pain in my lower back after extended periods of working outside or walking a round of golf. I previously experienced pain after hitting a significant number of golf balls at a driving range, but improvements in my posture helped alleviate this.   Manufacturer’s Claim: The Serola Sacroiliac Belt is designed to compress and support the sacroiliac joints, thereby relieving stress and instability at these weight bearing structures. Just as importantly, it is not so tight that it...

Game Improvement for Everyone

Posted

Pros: Easy and enjoyable to read. Not based on opinion, and backed up by statistics and real world applications.

Cons: Requires some homework, but don't worry, you will enjoy this homework.

This book gets right to the heart of the matter in golf... SCORING. It is well written and backed up by statistics, not personal opinion. The stats from touring pros and low handicappers are quite eye opening. There is not a shred of fluff in this book that you often find in other golf books. It busts some popular myths about the game and is enjoyable to read. It has a common sense approach to improving your game with both long term and short term tools to shave strokes. Who doesn't want to shoot lower scores?! To often, golfers go to the course or practice facility without a plan, or even worse, a bad plan. Lowest Score Wins teaches you how to develop a solid plan for improving your...
