Cypress Creek

Posted

Pros: Long and great greens

Cons: When it rains the course stays soaked

I have played Cypress Creek several times.  A few of the fairways need to be reworked for drainage since they hold water for days after a good rainfall. Then again, it is called Cypress Creek. I like playing here becasue it can be a regular length course, and a very difficult long course from the tips. Greens are always in great shape. Just a bit off the path from where I usually stay in Tampa.

Babe Zaharias Golf Course

Posted

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Golfing in the hood. Old. Packed.

I didnt enjoy my round at Babe Zaharias, but then again, it is run by the city. Very short course, was packed at every tee box, just old and needed to be refreshed. The parking lot is a dirt field, there is no driving range, and I felt like we were playing golf in the hood.

Rocky Point Golf Course

Posted

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Noisy

I didn't enjoy my round at Rocky Point. The course was crowded, its right in the middle of the city, 2 blocks from the airport so it was very loud. The course isn't long, and the driving range might be 200 yards, if that. I have not given the course a second chance, and I doubt I will.

Tampa Palms

Posted

Pros: Very nice course

Cons: Play with someone who knows the course

I am a member of Club Corp so I get to play the courses for a cart fee. Tampa Palms was tough and it would have helped to have played with someone who knew the course. There are a few blind shots and just some general advice that would have been nice to know about. Very nice neighborhood. Private course.

Summerfield Golf Club

Posted

Pros: Lightning fast greens

Cons: Can be expensive in the winter. Always windy.

Summerfield is known for its lightning quick greens. The course is not too hard, but the swirling winds make approach shots difficult at times. The 15th hole is an Island Par 3 similar to the 17th at TPC Sawgrass.

Apollo Beach Golf

Posted

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Water on every hole, always windy (expected though)

Apollo Beach is a golf course that was put in between canals that feed into Tampa Bay. There is water on every hole and it is always windy. Its a decent course although they dont have a practice putting green and the range is basically a field out between the 7th and 8th holes (quite a drive).

Silverado Golf & Counrty Club

Posted

Pros: Short and wide open

Cons: a bit off the beaten path

Silverado is a fun short course and they have a special where you pay $30 and you get 18 holes, a hot dog, and a beer. I like the course becasue it is pretty open and you can get crazy with the driver on a few holes. You can tell this couse is doing ok, but the initial plan was for the housing boom back in 2006. Some holes are adjacent to fields that were supposed to be subdivisions. I

Bloomingdale Golfers club

Posted

Pros: Good Condition

Cons: Double Booked tee times in the afternoon

I have played a few rounds at Bloomingdale and have usually had a good time. My last round they double booked the tee times and I think the round lasted almost 6 hours. I was not happy to say the least. The course is great and good scores can be had if you know the course. A few blind shots and just know where to put your tee shot is key.

Lexington Oaks

Posted

Pros: Fun Tough Course

Cons: Little wet in some fairways.

Lexington Oaks is a fun course. Target Golf to the fullest. Only 2 of the 4 Par 5's are accessible in two. The other two you have to lay up due to a severe dogleg or a small shoot through some trees that may be too risky with a 3 wood or hybrid. They positioned the lakes and trees on the sides of the fairway almost to command your shot direction off the tee. The fairways can be wet during the summer, but that is expected in Florida. Greens have always been in great shape. Im not a fan of water driving ranges though because you cant really gauge any distances with those floating balls.
