Deer Valley golf course

Posted

Pros: Cost, open layout, Very player friendly, Full cart path.

Cons: No sand traps, no driving range, a young course very small pro shop, lacks real food.

Deer Valley is a well rounded course just outside of Hershey PA. The course is very young with lots of young small trees. I think it will fill in very nice in 10 years or so. The course is 6027 from the white tees and is very player friendly.  The club house is an old converted barn with a very small are that sells some golf supplies. I would not go as far as call it a pro shop. In the club house there is just some tables and chairs to sit and drink some beers and eat hotdogs as that is about all they have.  I find that a bit of a drawback. Lets head out side.  They have a very large and nice practice green but no range.  I think that is a huge setback as most course...

Royal Manchester

Pros: Just about everything.

Cons: No real restrooms on course of this caliber, parking and parts of the cart path. Electric plant smokestack

I do not know where to start on this one.  This is one of the nicest courses I think in the Susquehanna valley of Pennsylvania. It is rather new as I think they are still less then 10 years old. This is a True links style course with rolling hills lots of well placed sand, some water and tons of tall thick fescue. The course is 6962 yards from the blue tees and 6373 from the white tees. They have a full range and their own short game area.  This course is Part of what is called the Raspberry Trail. That is a conglomerate of very high end courses in the VA, MD, and PA area. They have a full golf academe as well. The club house...

The Links at Gettysburg

Posted

Pros: Greens, Fairways, layout and just about anything.

Cons: coures of this level should have GPS in the carts, Bring more feel of the history of the area to the course

The links at Gettysburg  is a prime course just south of the historic town of Gettysburg Pa. They have a very nice club house and facilities. The pro shop is small and to the point and the bar and eating area is very nice.  The thing I love the most is the outside porch that lets you sit up high on a cliff above the 18th green and look out over the back 9 of the course. They have a very up to date cart fleet. They are electric powered Yamaha units that have some speed to them. They are decked out with 2 canisters of divot mix, a cooler for drinks, and even a club and ball cleaner on the cart.  Only thing they are missing is a GPS unit in the carts. They do have a range area...

Cool Creek Golf Course

Pros: Nice rates, Nice range, Great course to play

Cons: older carts, could use more sand traps.

This is a rather nice course in York county Pa.  It is a classic late 1950s layout with it being 6623 yards from the blue tees. They do have a small pro shop with everything you would need to get for your outing. The bar area is a bit small an dated but very good service and good food as well. There cart fleet is gas carts that are a bit older but in very nice shape. They have a putting green that is FREE to the public.  Yes you do not need to pay for round of golf or even range balls. The range they have is a very nice setup.  The mats are a bit used but other things really stand out.  The mats are under some large willow trees that provide great shade from the hot...

Take on Armitage

Pros: Nice greens, Nice fairways, Huge plus is full real bathrooms out on the course and 9 and dines during the week

Cons: Can be a nut house on the weekends

Very nice course for this area in pa.  Cost is about average at $43.00 for this area.  The course is a bit short at only about 5500 yards from the whites. Very nice fairway compared to other courses in the area. 2 full restrooms out on the course.  This is even something courses that are $100+ lack.  Ground along the cart paths could use some work.

Monroe Valley outing

Posted

Pros: Nice tee boxes, Nice open layout. Nice streams on course

Cons: Fairways are a bit harsh. Greens have some dead areas. Ducks and Geese tons of them.

Monroe Valley is a long solid par 72 course at 6455 yards from the whites and a stout 7000 yards from the blues nestled in a valley hence the name. Let’s start at the club house. The inside is a bit dated and tons of open room that is just kind of odd and empty.  The staff inside was great. On the day I was there when I went to pay he gave me a discount that was only offered to the email newsletter members. The Greens fee with cart was to be $39.00 but the discount got me down to $19.00.  Cannot beat $19.00 for a round of golf with a cart I thought.      Now let’s move outside now. The cart fleet was newer gas powered Yamaha units....
